known for his captivating and immersive visual style. His photography can be classified
as documentary, with a concentration on documenting the realities of conflict and its
influence on people's lives.

combat. This resulted in his renowned photos of soldiers in the midst of combat and
war.
• Capa primarily used black and white film, which gave his photos a feeling of
timelessness and universality, similar to David Bailey. The lack of colour let the viewer
to focus on the composition's fundamental aspects, emphasising the emotional effect
of the photos and the story behind them, rather than the colour.

P1 (U8): DESCRIBE PROFESSIONAL PHOTOGRAPHERS
AND THEIR PHOTOGRAPHIC WORK
• Uses, purpose and genre
• In terms of genre, Robert Capa's photography primarily falls within the
realms of documentary photography and photojournalism.
Documentary photography seeks to capture real-life situations and
events, focusing on portraying truth and providing a visual record.
Photojournalism involves capturing and reporting news events through
photographs, often with an emphasis on current events and social
issues.
• Capa's photography also play a significant role in shaping public opinion

devastating consequences, he aimed to influence perceptions and
provoke a deeper understanding of war and conflict.
P1 (U8): DESCRIBE PROFESSIONAL PHOTOGRAPHERS

• Robert Capa's most successful period as a photographer coincided with the
mid-20th century, particularly during World War II. He captured some of his
most iconic images during this time. Capa also photographed coverage of

• Another piece of equipment Capa used is Contax cameras. In addition to Leica,
Capa also used Contax cameras, particularly the Contax II and III models. Contax
cameras were known for their high-quality lenses and advanced features, which
appealed to Capa's needs as a photojournalist in dangerous and
constantly moving environments.

P1 (U8): DESCRIBE PROFESSIONAL PHOTOGRAPHERS

• Here are some of the most famous photos from Robert Capa:
M1 (U8): DESCRIBE OWN PHOTOGRAPHIC
STYLE AND INFLUENCES
This image here is a candid photo of a man
enjoying a head massage in a restaurant in
Barcelona. The man here is clearly the subject
due to the fact he is centre frame. There is
colour used within this image, clearly in the
sun. This has been taken simply to capture
both this man's enjoyment and surprise that
he is having a head massage. The fact he is
wearing a white t-shirt could suggest the
man is pure. As well as this, the fact the man
has taken his cap off (in front of him in navy)
could suggest he is comfortable and almost
showing his inner happiness.
M1 (U8): DESCRIBE OWN
PHOTOGRAPHIC STYLE AND
INFLUENCES
This photograph is a candid portrait photo of a girl who
seems to be quiet angry and flustered. This is clear and
obvious due to her facial expression, as well as her red
cheeks. This image has drawn inspiration of David Bailey,
however the image is not taken in black and white and
is more of a natural pose rather than a pose for the
camera. The girls eyes are not focused on the camera,
which could suggest the emotion expressed on her face,
causing audiences to ponder the reason as to why this
girl seems so angry, meaning each person can have their
own interpretation of the photo.
M1 (U8): DESCRIBE OWN
PHOTOGRAPHIC STYLE AND
INFLUENCES
This image is a portrait image of a woman and what
seems to be her dog. The woman is clearly happy, seen
via her facial expression. The woman is wearing black,
which matches the fur of the dog of whom she is
cuddling. This could help emphasize the relationship
between human and pet, reffering to 'a mans best
friend'. The image is portrait In order to be able to bring
full focus on to this fact. There is also some nature in
the background (bushes), meaning that the nature in the
background could also possibly reflect the nature of
love between the woman and the dog. Furthermore, the
dog also seems very relaxed and sleepy, reinforcing the
fact the dog is clearly very comfortable with the
woman.
M1 (U8): DESCRIBE
OWN
PHOTOGRAPHIC
STYLE AND
INFLUENCES
This image here was taken within
JCoSS secondary school. The image
presents a conflict between
students, with little care from other
subjects in the background. The
image is also black and white
suggesting it the action within the
frame has more importance than
the actual colour. This imagine has
taken inspiration from Robert Capa,
of whom also captured images of
conflict in black and white during
the mid 1900's, specifically WW2.
M1 (U8): DESCRIBE
OWN
PHOTOGRAPHIC
STYLE AND
INFLUENCES
This image here is a candid in-
action shot of a boy playing
football. This photo has a clear
subject and story, being that he is
about to kick a ball. This image has
small inspirations from Robert
Capa, as the image is within the
action (on the football pitch) while
viewing people expressions. The
boys facial expression is quite
happy, which is contrasted to
Robert Capas work where the
subjects look quite distraught as
they are in a war zone. This
positive facial expression could
suggest happiness, which is also
M1 (U8): DESCRIBE OWN
PHOTOGRAPHIC STYLE AND
INFLUENCES
This photo was part of a photoshop with a teen male and
his dog. The photoshoot was done in an open field in
summer sunlight. The photo is portrait, in order to bring
focus on the relationship between the animal and the
boy, rather than the landscape of the background. The
boy and the dog are clearly close and enjoy eachothers
company, seen throught the dogs panting and the males
facial expression. There are mild hints of Steve McCurry
within this photo, due to the vibrant colours (ginger hair
and yellow t-shirt and tennis ball) with a more vibrant
hue.
M1 (U8): DESCRIBE
OWN
PHOTOGRAPHIC
STYLE AND
INFLUENCES
This is a portrait image in black and
white, taken with a wider lense, almost
giving a slightly warped effect. This
image has a variety of different
elements, in foreground and
background, but the main focus is the
two individuals at the front. On the left,
a regular working man with no real
religious beliefs, and on the right a
Rabbi. The photo is black and white
which shows that the story behind the
picture is more important than the
colours within the frame. This has taken
a large inspiration both from David
Bailey and Robert Capa, due to the
black and white nature and the candid
M1 (U8): DESCRIBE
OWN PHOTOGRAPHIC
STYLE AND
INFLUENCES
This shot is heavily inspired by the work of David
Bentley. There is a clear focus subject, of whom is the
male in the black suit, who is aware of the camera and is
posing for it. The image has been made black and white
which is similar to David Bailey. As well as this, Bailey was
known to have his subjects in dynamic pose, which is
clear for the person in this photo. As well as this, Bailey
also shot to bring focus on to fashion, which is apparent
within this photo due to the slick black suit.
M1 (U8): DESCRIBE
OWN PHOTOGRAPHIC
STYLE AND
INFLUENCES
This photo is also directly inspired by David Bailey. This
has the same 'tropes' as a typical David Bailey photo. The
monochromatic element, the dynamic pose, the subject
being centred and the presence of fashion all play parts
in this fact. The only real difference is the background,
which is much more filled up and busy compared to
David Baileys usual work. However, this may be due to
the fact that the outfit the subject is wearing is a bit
more eccentric, which will be matched by a more
eccentric background, compared to something more
typical like a suit and a plain background which is
common for Baileys work.
M1 (U8): DESCRIBE
OWN
PHOTOGRAPHIC
STYLE AND
INFLUENCES
This photo is quite different
to the previous ones shown.
This image is horizontal, in
order to be able to show the
whole of the subject, which
is the sports car in this case.
This doesn't take much
inspiration from any
photographers, however the
hue, saturation and vibrance
of the blues, greens and the
hints of yellows could be
small elements of Steve
McCurry, of whom uses the
same techniques to create
meaning. This image was
taken to capture the beauty

  • 18. M1 (U8): DESCRIBE OWN PHOTOGRAPHIC STYLE AND INFLUENCES This photograph is a candid portrait photo of a girl who seems to be quiet angry and flustered. This is clear and obvious due to her facial expression, as well as her red cheeks. This image has drawn inspiration of David Bailey, however the image is not taken in black and white and is more of a natural pose rather than a pose for the camera. The girls eyes are not focused on the camera, which could suggest the emotion expressed on her face, causing audiences to ponder the reason as to why this girl seems so angry, meaning each person can have their own interpretation of the photo.
  • 19. M1 (U8): DESCRIBE OWN PHOTOGRAPHIC STYLE AND INFLUENCES This image is a portrait image of a woman and what seems to be her dog. The woman is clearly happy, seen via her facial expression. • 21. M1 (U8): DESCRIBE OWN PHOTOGRAPHIC STYLE AND INFLUENCES This image here is a candid in- action shot of a boy playing football. This photo has a clear subject and story, being that he is about to kick a ball. This image has small inspirations from Robert Capa, as the image is within the action (on the football pitch) while viewing people expressions. • 23. M1 (U8): DESCRIBE OWN PHOTOGRAPHIC STYLE AND INFLUENCES This is a portrait image in black and white, taken with a wider lense, almost giving a slightly warped effect. This image has a variety of different elements, in foreground and background, but the main focus is the two individuals at the front. On the left, a regular working man with no real religious beliefs, and on the right a Rabbi. The photo is black and white which shows that the story behind the picture is more important than the colours within the frame. • 24. M1 (U8): DESCRIBE OWN PHOTOGRAPHIC STYLE AND INFLUENCES This shot is heavily inspired by the work of David Bentley. There is a clear focus subject, of whom is the male in the black suit, who is aware of the camera and is posing for it. The image has been made black and white which is similar to David Bailey. As well as this, Bailey was known to have his subjects in dynamic pose, which is clear for the person in this photo. • 25. M1 (U8): DESCRIBE OWN PHOTOGRAPHIC STYLE AND INFLUENCES This photo is also directly inspired by David Bailey. This has the same 'tropes' as a typical David Bailey photo. The monochromatic element, the dynamic pose, the subject being centred and the presence of fashion all play parts in this fact. The only real difference is the background, which is much more filled up and busy compared to David Baileys usual work. However, this may be due to the fact that the outfit the subject is wearing is a bit more eccentric, which will be matched by a more eccentric background, compared to something more typical like a suit and a plain background which is common for Baileys work.
  • 26. M1 (U8): DESCRIBE OWN PHOTOGRAPHIC STYLE AND INFLUENCES This photo is quite different to the previous ones shown. This image is horizontal, in order to be able to show the whole of the subject, which is the sports car in this case. This image was taken to capture the beauty
