1. BACAO ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
Reading is a complex "cognitive process" of decoding symbols in order to
construct or derive meaning (reading comprehension).
Every teacher of Bacao Elementary School conducted a reading program with its
program banner PROJECT ERECTT (Enjoy Reading with Comprehension Through
Technology) to develop the love and fashion of every learner in reading with the use of
modern technologies. This program will help every pupil to improve their skills in
reading, determine the sounds of every letter in the alphabet and become familiar to
the different words from easy to difficult level.
Part of this activity teacher will easily identify the pupils’ area which they failed to
exhibit and perform. Unlike other reading programs this project focuses only on the
Oral Reading skills of the learners. This also aims to enhance the speaking ability of the
readers especially their pronunciation skills.
Project ERECTT is being conducted every morning as part of the DEAR lesson.
There is also a 12 o’clock habit in the afternoon so pupils can stay longer in the
classroom before the resume of classes. Story Telling is also being conducted in the
primary level. There are invited people from the community who do the story telling.
The project is a great help to lessen the numbers of the frustrated readers based
on the Phil-Iri report.

The table shows that there are 27 non-readers from grades 1 who
need intense intervention. Project ERECTT helped decrease the number of
the previous non-readers in Grades 2, 5 and 6. At present there are no
non-readers to consider but they fall to frustration level with the
intervention made.
