Abstract
Abstract
Useful links and key points
Useful links and key points
Nowadays, SDN is mostly used
in virtual environments.
Hardware prices make them
absent in physical networks.
We have built a fully OpenFlow-
controlled switch and tested its
performance in real-world
network conditions.
We need hardware devices controllable by SDN
controllers in order to fully utilize SDN’s full potential.
Lack of affordable SDN devices is preventing massive
integration of SDN technologies.
OVS driven hardware routers do not provide great
performance due to CPU bound limitations.
Motivation

The main components:
• Hardware multi-port
development platform
• Linux OS
• Open vSwitch service
• POX controller

Motivation:
• Higher level of network
programmability
• Wider use of SDN in physical
networks
• Too expensive SDN devices
• The tool for future developments
Platform
• Soekris net4801 dev board
• 6 x OpenFlow controllable
Ethernet ports
• 1 x SDN controller port
Tests
• IPerf3 bandwith test
• User VS Kernel datapath
• SDN switch CPU ussage
• SDN controller RTT
