SYDNEY LIVING
MUSEUM

Stage 1 History syllabus
About the learning program
■ Range of hands-on activities “completing tasks in the kitchen - such as polishing cutlery,
grinding spices and churning a butter churn”
■ “planting a bean seed in the kitchen garden (which they take home)”
■ Teacher led component in the program includes:
■ “a walk to the estate's waterfall”
■ “a chance to visit the horse stables”
■ “opportunities to play 19th century games, including croquet, skittles, cup and ball, quoits
and hoop and stick.”
■ Being history detectives when exploring the grand house, trying out children clothing of the
time in nursery
■ Wentworth family had servants so contrasts as they were wealthy family of the past compared
to the present family life
■ “see how all the jobs were done without the benefits of running water or an electricity supply,
students will also be able to make comparisons to how they live today”

Transport to excursion
■ Bus will minimum cost $600
■ Train
■ Public Ferry to harbourside
■ Students can use the child/youth opal cards to pay it will take $20 maybe at least by
distance
■ 69AWentworth Rd,Vaucluse NSW 2030 is the place of address
■ Children can have recess when they arrive at the picnic spot. Lunch as well or at the
restaurant even if they bring extra money.
Ratio of teachers to students
■ 1:10 for primary students
■ So one teacher for 10 students
■ Maximum 45 students each session so 4 teachers
■ Another time of day for the sessions for other classes in the year if we have like 60
students
■ As duration of the activities will be 1h 30 mins for presenter led tours to the house, and
then games supervised by teachers which will be again the same hour of time.
Circumstances
■ COVID-19 virus so wear face mask if need be and please be vaccinated if you can.Also
bring a sanitiser to clean hands as you will be playing games/ activities.
■ Weather: heavy rainfall bring umbrella or raincoat; bring sunscreen when it is sunny;
wear jacket or jumper- warm clothes when it is cold. So children do not fall ill from the
excursion journey.

  1. This presentation on the excursion planning to one of Sydney Living Museum projects, the historic house of Vaucluse once owned by the wealthy Wentworth family in the 1860s.
  2. It is called … presenter led and then game playing activities. Click on the video of me.
  3. History syllabus for stage 1 students. History topic is ‘present and past family life.’ Taking year 2 in excursion.
  4. Two videos explaining the order of transportation to travel to the venue.
  5. In covid 19 situation this is self-explanatory, use common sense to protect yourself from catching diseases.
