1. To whom it may concern,
I am writing regarding my pleasant and informative recent interaction with Ms. Famo Marad.
Ms. Marad served as a guest speaker during a recent visit of IU Southeast graduate students to
the Iroquois library. The students, who were Ms. Marad’s audience, were all K-12 teachers
currently in a master’s of education program who are interested in learning about English
language learners’ experiences in Louisville. Although many students might find it intimidating
to stand and speak in front of a room full of teachers, Ms. Marad spoke with confidence about
her advice for teachers working with students from other linguistic and cultural backgrounds.
She carried herself with presence and self-assurance and her spoke with appropriate register,
tone, enunciation, and volume for the room and the audience. I applaud her work on her public
speaking and would be happy to have her speak to any of my graduate students in the future.
Sincerely,
Lisa Hoffman, Ph.D.
