Writing Center Director, Writing Program Administrator
• Writing Center Director. train and supervise professional and student writing tutors,
collaborate with Learning Center staff on tutor training for all peer tutors, , maintain
and serve as principal administrator for WritingCenter Online scheduler and
database, oversee annual budget of $7,500, maintain office supplies, offer training to
professional learning coaches and faculty volunteers on writing tutoring, create and
circulate tutoring schedule, promote tutoring services on campus, tutor students in
the writing center, assess writing center effectiveness.
• Writing Program Administrator: Update course charters to ensure quality national
standards in first year and third year required writing courses, train and support
faculty across the college in best practices in the teaching of writing, represent the
college writing program at admissions and orientation events, lead sessions on
teaching with writing at new faculty orientations.

• Directed Writing Across the Curriculum Program from spring of 2004 to fall of
2006 in collaboration with Dean of Arts and Sciences: developed and wrote
program policy and training materials; hired, trained and supported 28 graduate and
undergraduate student writing assistants who were matched with individual writing
intensive courses; recruited faculty to participate in program; collaborated with
English and writing faculty to offer faculty development workshops and seminars;
oversaw annual budget of $85,000; coordinated related undergraduate conference;
supervised one full-time professional staff member; assessed program.
• Directed Peer-Tutoring Based Writing Center: hired, trained and supervised 8
graduate and undergraduate writing tutors; created on-line and class-based training
materials; managed data; managed tutoring space and materials; managed annual
budget of $15,000, publicized center; assessed program.
• Developed and offered writing workshops in collaboration with individual classes on
topics such as avoiding plagiarism, essay exams, literature reviews, and abstracts.
• Tutored graduate and undergraduate ESOL students in reading, writing,
conversation, and conventions of US higher education. Developed faculty resource
guide for working with non-native speaking students, and offered related
workshops. Offered and evaluated alternative writing and speaking test for students
with waived TOEFL.
Certified as a Tutor Trainer by the National Tutoring Association 2013
• Completed all certification requirements to train and certify tutors at the beginner,
intermediate and advanced levels. Offered an independent training workshop at the
Lynn YMCA in the spring of 2014 to certify tutors in their ESL tutoring program.

Teach writing and literature courses at the 100, 200, and 300-levels, including Composition,

like Reds, Speakeasies and the New Deal and Reading World Revolutions with faculty from
Communications and History. In addition, I teach Introduction to Peer Tutoring each

Taught in first-year writing program: MCC – Multidisciplinary Core Course, in fall and
spring semesters. Sample course title: The Cuban American Way. Taught intensive writing in
2001 Summer EXCEL bridge program for conditionally admitted first year students.

Developed and taught an introductory composition course for non-native speakers. Course
emphasized critical reading, thesis development, research strategies, presentation strategies,

Developed and taught eight first year writing courses for native speaking and non-native

“Developmental Writers in the Two Year College Writing Center”

• Presented a poster on supporting developmental writers in two-year college writing
centers by balancing directive and non-directive tutoring, tending creatively and
actively to grammar and surface features of writing, and training tutors on theories
that explain differences in writing skill.
“Charting Two Courses: Training Peer Tutors in the Writing Center”

October 2011
• Co-presented with Jennifer Rosser from Bunker Hill Community College on two
different structures in which strong peer-writing tutoring programs can be built and
supported: Bunker Hill’s course based, credit bearing training course, and Dean’s
paid by the hour training workshop series.

• Led or co-led four sessions at a week-long professional development conference in
Oklahoma for new and experienced writing center directors. Presented on the
following topics: solo: longitudinal studies on how college writers develop over time;
solo: 10 ideas for tutor training; with Michele Eodice, writing centers and writing
fellows program; with Ben Rafoth, training tutors to work with ESL writers.
“Dean College’s Accelerated Developmental Composition Project”
Accelerated Learning Project Conference. Baltimore, MD May 2010

• Co-presented with English Department and Math/Science Department Chairs, and
Associate Dean for Academic Planning and Assessment on Dean College’s
accelerated learning project in composition. Dean eliminated it’s developmental
writing course, and replaced it with a 3-credit, six contact hour model to support
developmental writing students. This presentation demonstrated that
developmental students were doing just as well gradewise in composition and in
terms of their writing outcomes at the end of the AA degree as students who began
in standard composition.
“Many Roads to the Same Outcome: 10 Ways to Teach November 2009
First Year Composition”
Two Year College English Association , Northeast Regional Conference. Boston,

• Co-presented with English Department chair and other English faculty on Dean’s
accelerated learning project. Our presentation mapped out how Dean shaped one
Intro to Composition course to fit developmental, ESL, honors, learning disabled
and traditional students into a 3-credit course that varied contact hours from 3-6 a
week depending on student needs.

Course emphasized critical reading, thesis development, research strategies, presentation strategies, vocabulary building, and editing for grammar and style. PRESENTATIONS AND PUBLICATIONS________________ ______________ “Developmental Writers in the Two Year College Writing Center” International Writing Centers Association Conference, San Diego, CA October 2012 • Presented a poster on supporting developmental writers in two-year college writing centers by balancing directive and non-directive tutoring, tending creatively and actively to grammar and surface features of writing, and training tutors on theories that explain differences in writing skill. “Charting Two Courses: Training Peer Tutors in the Writing Center” TYCA Northeast Regional Conference, Portland, ME October 2011 • Co-presented with Jennifer Rosser from Bunker Hill Community College on two different structures in which strong peer-writing tutoring programs can be built and supported: Bunker Hill’s course based, credit bearing training course, and Dean’s paid by the hour training workshop series. International Writing Centers Association Summer Institute July 2010 Lone Wolf, Oklahoma • Led or co-led four sessions at a week-long professional development conference in Oklahoma for new and experienced writing center directors. Presented on the following topics: solo: longitudinal studies on how college writers develop over time; solo: 10 ideas for tutor training; with Michele Eodice, writing centers and writing fellows program; with Ben Rafoth, training tutors to work with ESL writers. “Dean College’s Accelerated Developmental Composition Project” Accelerated Learning Project Conference. Baltimore, MD May 2010 Baltimore, MD • Co-presented with English Department and Math/Science Department Chairs, and Associate Dean for Academic Planning and Assessment on Dean College’s accelerated learning project in composition. Dean eliminated it’s developmental writing course, and replaced it with a 3-credit, six contact hour model to support developmental writing students. This presentation demonstrated that developmental students were doing just as well gradewise in composition and in terms of their writing outcomes at the end of the AA degree as students who began in standard composition. “Many Roads to the Same Outcome: 10 Ways to Teach November 2009 First Year Composition” Two Year College English Association , Northeast Regional Conference. Boston, MA • Co-presented with English Department chair and other English faculty on Dean’s accelerated learning project. Our presentation mapped out how Dean shaped one Intro to Composition course to fit developmental, ESL, honors, learning disabled and traditional students into a 3-credit course that varied contact hours from 3-6 a week depending on student needs.
