3. PowerTransmission
Power transmission is the movement of energy from its place of generation
to a location where it is applied to perform useful work.
Power is defined formally as units of energy per unit time. In SI units Watt.
7. Types of Flat Belt D rive
Open Belt drive
Is used in shafts
arranged parallel and
same direction.
The Upper side belt is
known slack side.
The Lower side belt is
known tight side.
8. Crossed Belt Drive
Is used with shafts arranged
parallel and rotating in the
opposite direction.
The belt RQ is knownTight side.
The belt LM is slack side.
9. Quarter turn Belt Drive
The quarter turn belt drive
known as right angle belt
drive.
Is used in shafts arranged
right angle and rotating in
the definite direction.
When the reversible motion
is desired then a quarter turn
belt is guide pulley.
10. Belt Drive with driver pulley
Is used with shafts arranged parallel
and when an open belt drive can not
be used due to small angle of contact
on the smaller pulley.
This type of drive provide high
velocity ratio
11. Compound Belt Drive
Is used when power is
transmitted from one
shaft to another
through a number of
pulleys.
12. Selection of Belt Drive
Speed of the driving and driven shafts
Speed reduction ratio
Power to be transmitted
Centre distance between the shafts
Positive drive requirements
Shafts layout
Space availability
13. Type of Rope Drive
Rope
