ABSTRACT
In the era of technological development, there have been several shifts in the
form of methods of providing education. In the past, we knew that learning
took place in the classroom and if there was interaction between teachers
and students at the same time and place, now this has changed. With the
large number of web-based distance learning methods, the learning process
can be carried out anywhere and anytime. Learners can study at home, at
work or in the library. This is very easy for students. This paper describes the
use of information technology in education, especially nursing education in
Indonesia and the obstacles it faces.

ABSTRACT
In the era of high technology a revolution in learning has occurred and has
moved from classroom and synchronous to a more independent and
asynchronous method. Distance learning based on the web makes many
students have access to learn any time and anywhere whether they want it-at
home, at work, or in the local library. It is very flexible for students. The article
discusses about information technology in nursing education and also the
problems that are usually encountered in Indonesia.
Key words: Information technology, method of providing education, and

INTRODUCTION
Indonesia is a developing country with a population of 213,722,300, and has a population
growth rate of 1.5% per year (BPS 2003, quoted on www.webgatra.com). This very large
population lives and is spread over approximately 13,000,000 islands in Indonesia. Indonesia's
earth is very rich and geographically Indonesia's nature is separated by oceans and consists of
mountains, rivers and forests. Geographical conditions that are separated by seas and spread across
various islands cause a lot of economic development and growth as well as the unequal distribution
of information.
Most of Indonesia's population (59%) live on the island of Java. This is supported by
availability, complete facilities and everything that is easier to obtain than if you live outside
the island of Java. (www.web gatra.com). With a large population spread across various
islands and the tendency to live in one archipelago, the tendency for development
opportunities to develop is not evenly distributed.
The nurse is a giverhealth services that have an important contribution in improving the
health status of the nation. One of the functions and roles of nurses is as an educator in the
community (Helvie, 1998). Nurses have a role as a provider of information about preventive and
health promotion actions. Based on this role, it is hoped that with the provision of this knowledge
that can be given to the community, the community will be able to behave more healthily so that
their health status will also improve.
How is the condition of nurses in Indonesia? In the 2003 National Health System (SKN), it is
stated that the ratio of nurses to the population is still low, namely 1: 2850
(www.namline.edu/apkbr/database.html). The educational level of nurses in Indonesia is also very
diverse, ranging from graduates from the School of Health Nursing (SPK) at the same level as high
school to those with doctoral degrees. In terms of quantity, the number of nurses with high school
equivalent education is greater than nurses with higher education. Apart from that, with the
geographical basis of the Indonesian nation, nurses also tend to be more concentrated on the island
of Java, so that the dissemination of knowledge and information to the public is also uneven.
The lack of equal distribution of learning opportunities for nurses who are far from
the center or big cities should be a concern for nursing tertiary education institutions, both
public and private. With the limitations possessed by the nursing community in Indonesia,
they must be the bridge so that all nurses can gain knowledge and increase their knowledge
so that the contribution of nurses in improving the health status of the Indonesian nation
can increase.
The use of health information technology at Karya Persada Muna University continues
to be increased by providing Computer Technology facilities and infrastructure and modern
health tools such as electrocardiograms and other technological tools

IMPLEMENTATION METHOD
The approach taken by the team was in the form of health education activities regarding the
use of technology. This community service activity is carried out offline through direct visits
to campus. This activity was carried out on May 19 2023 with a time of 30 minutes. The
media used in this health education is a leaflet containing information about the use of health
technology.
In the preparatory stage, a preliminary study was carried out at the service location, preparing
materials and media to be used in community service activities, making banners for the
introduction of activities and working with teachers and partners at Karya Persada Muna
University for field coordination and confirming the presence of students.
At this stage, the first thing to do is introduce yourself and convey the intent and purpose of
the activities to be carried out to the students who are present. Ask for time to listen and pay
attention to the material that will be delivered. After the locations and other equipment are
ready, the implementation team will distribute attendance lists and media in the form of
leaflets to the activity targets and begin providing counseling according to the material

prepared. The activity continued with two-way communication, where the speakers tried to
get feedback from students regarding the material presented. The activity was closed with a
documentation session between students and the team implementing the community service
activities.
The monitoring phase is carried out intensively by the community service implementation
team/researchers to ensure that the implementation of activities goes according to plan.
Evaluation of activities is carried out after counseling is given by asking again the extent of
understanding gained by students after counseling and ensuring students have been able to
apply health technology

RESULTS AND DISCUSSION
Along with the times, values have shifted and patterns of life have also
experienced changes. The participation of students in counseling activities conducted by
health workers or other agencies is currently very low. Many students prefer to spend their
time browsing the internet to get information rather than having to take part in health
education outreach activities. In the current digital era, it is undeniable that smartphones are
the main tool in human life to add insight. However, information that is widely circulated in
cyberspace cannot be trusted one hundred percent. For this reason, the role of health
workers and related institutions is needed to be able to provide information and add to the
knowledge of student groups so that the knowledge gained is not confusing.

Challenges of Using Information Technology in the World of Nursing Education
UseInformation technology media has a positive impact on quality improvement and makes
it easier to update teaching materials or information conveyed. In web-based learning, the
advantages highlighted are being able to penetrate the boundaries of time and place and by
using information technology, it can increase the competitiveness of education providers.
In this counseling activity, the implementing team put more emphasis on how to
use nursing technology. The implementation of this activity was carried out in the
classroom so as not to mix with other students. This is done so that information and
targets are centered on students only. The atmosphere during the activity was very
conducive, the participants were so enthusiastic about the material presented and the

number of participants was 15 people.
CONCLUSIONS AND SUGGESTIONS
Information technology is a medium that can be used as an alternative in improving
the implementation of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education. In addition, information
technology is one way out to overcome inequality in access to education, especially for
nursing staff. However, technology is only a tool that helps humans in carrying out their
activities, so that their use and utilization must also be addressed wisely. With information
technology that supports knowledge and quality improvement in nursing education, it is
hoped that the quality of nurses in carrying out their roles and functions will also increase,
and will indirectly improve the quality and health status of the Indonesian nation. (ENT)
