8. Limitations of Testing Vocabulary
Teachers should take into consideration the
following points when testing their vocabulary:
• It is difficult to estimate the size of a student’s
vocabulary.

• It is often difficult to decide which words should
be included in a test and which should not be.
• It is difficult to decide what is the criterion for
knowing the word.
• Certain tests do not give valid and reliable results.
