Follow the Voyage Continues for Grade 4
Students with Engineering Presentation
Grade 4 students are continuing project-based learning com-
bining the disciplines of Science, Technology, Engineering,
and Mathematics (STEM) as they follow the real time voyage
of Mass. Maritime Academy’s training ship, the T.S. Kenne-
dy, on its voyage to Curacao, Barbados, Colombia, and Mi-
ami. Recently, marine engineers Kellen Nee and Nathan
Wolfe visited classes to present on the steam cycle, the ba-
sics of an engine room on a ship, and careers in marine engi-
neering.
February School Mass on
Feast of St. Blaise
At our February School Mass on February 3, the Feast of St.
Blaise, Rev. Jean Pierre Aubin reminded students, teachers,
and parents about St. Blaise who was a doctor, a bishop, and
a martyr who lived in the 4th century in Armenia. “One day,
they brought a boy to him who was dying because a fishbone
was stuck in this throat,” said Father Aubin. “Although he
was about to die, St. Blaise healed him.” Because of that mir-
acle many centuries ago, Catholics have their throats blessed
and pray to St. Blaise to keep them from getting diseases of
the throat and other illnesses. Special thanks to Grade 3 lec-
tors Jack Revellese, Zeina Najjar, and Fulton Tenore; Grade 4
altar servers Axel Ekberg, Geneva McDonagh, and John
Coughlin; and Grade 2 gift bearers Ava Brady, Nolan Harri-
son, Abigail Trahon, and Alex Hues.

St. Catherine’s Middle School Girl Scout Troop
Troop Helps at Food Pantry
Jesus tells us that we are the light of the world. St. Catherine
of Siena Middle School Girl Scout Troup gave meaning to
that image this past month as they volunteered at the Nor-
wood Food Pantry to help others in need by donating and
shelving food items, packing food for families, carrying bags,
and organizing the space for more efficient distribution. Pic-
tured from left to right are: Margaret Timmoney, Ava Ek-
berg, Lara Szczepanowski, Noreen Timmoney, Theresa Fla-
herty, Emily Trahon, and Rebecca Nee.
Monsignor Garrity Leads Tour of Church for
for Grade 2 Students
As part of their prepa-
ration to receive the
Holy Eucharist for the
first time in May, sec-
ond grade students
and their teachers in
both the school and
the religious educa-
tion program had a
guided tour of St.
Catherine of Siena
Church led by
Monsignor Garrity.
Second graders had an opportunity to explore the altar and
sanctuary areas of the church and learn firsthand about the
tabernacle, the ambo, the altar stone, the Paschal Candle, and
the Baptismal Font. They also learned more about the
vestments worn by the priest to celebrate the Mass,
including the alb, the chasuble, and the stole. When leaving
the church, the children blessed themselves with holy water
directly from the Baptismal Font. Msgr. Garrity responded to
their natural curiosity about what they were seeing and ably
fielded the many questions they asked.
