Susie Carr, Personal Development Consultant at LifeWorks explains about self worth as a concept and how people frequently face trouble with affirmations.
2. In my work at
Lifeworks, I see many
people who share their
concerns with me
about their lack of self
worth.
3. They tell me how
worried it makes them
feel that they don't feel
as positive and happy
about life
4. They tell me how distressed
it makes them feel when
they don’t get the positive
messages of the self help
Gurus or feel as positive as
they think they should when
reading the daily
affirmations their friends
post on social media.
5. Many people who would
describe themselves as
glass half empty people say
the hyped up positive
philosophies just don’t
resonate with them and this
makes them feel at fault and
even guilty about their
feelings.
6. The question I am often asked
by my clients is,
“What happens if thinking
positively doesn’t work for me,
or reciting affirmations just
makes me feel more negative
about myself, or if I don’t
achieve my goals by thinking
positively? Does it mean I am
not trying hard enough or there
is something wrong with me?”
8. If you have been told
throughout your
childhood or within an
abusive relationship
that you are unlovable,
ugly or stupid our
subconscious mind
registers that as a truth.
9. Recent studies have
highlighted the
effectiveness of asking
questions instead of
making declarations about
ourselves when problem
solving. This approach is
called an interrogative
instead of a declarative
approach.
