NAME OF ACTIVITY
LET’S JOIN TOGETHER!
PURPOSE
GOALS Empathize with classmatesandrespectindividual differences.
MATERIAL Differentcoloredstickers.
DESCRIPTION OF THE
ACTIVITY
We start the activity without a previous introduction. We tell
childrenthatwe’ll stick a coloured sticker on their forefront. They
won’t know what color it is. For example, 8 children with a blue
sticker,8 childrenwitharedsticker,4 childrenwithagreensticker,
3 children with a yellow sticker, 1 child with a black sticker and 1
child with an orange sticker. Once we have sticked them on their
forefront, we tell them to join together. We just check what
happens. It is supposed that children will join by colour.
Throughout this process, they’ll experience different emotions.
Children who can’t join by colour could have felt rejected or
discriminated. We’ll talk about all these feelings. Did you have
difficulties? How did you feel when nobody accepted you in a
group? Why have you joined by colour? I just told you to join
together… We can talk about how to empathize with others. We
can tell them that people tend to join those who are similar
without taking others people feelings into consideration.
If it were the case that children didn’t join by colour, we could
encourage this attitude because, in fact, we just told them to join
together. We can talk about feelings and emotions. The goa lis to
empathise with others.
