5. Bans Use of PFHxS in Textile
Japanese Environment Ministry
 PFHxS (perfluoro hexane sulfonic acid)
 It is a type of organic fluorine
compound (PFAS) used in textiles.
 PFHxS is used to make water-repellent
textile products.
 Its manufacture, import, and use will
be prohibited from February 1, 2024.

 COP stands for "Conference of the
Parties", where the "parties" are the countries
that signed up to the original UN climate agreement
in 1992.
 More than 70,000 delegates are
expected to attend COP28.
