Girl Scouts fundraise to fight child hunger
EL PASO, Texas- Local girl scouts of the borderland community will be fundraising for No Kid
Hungry organization. They will be having a bake sale to receive local donations to fight
childhood hunger. The fundraiser will be held on Saturday, May 11th at the Fountains of Farah.
Scout leader Emily Hernandez, stated that the fundraiser is not only to fight childhood hunger,
but also to raise awareness in the El Paso community.
The local girl scouts have been No Kid Hungry advocates for years, and their mission is to better
inform the El Paso community so that we can all end childhood hunger. They are working with
No Kid Hungry, a national campaign run by Share Our Strength, a nonprofit working to
solve problems of hunger and poverty in the United States and around the world. Their
primary focus is to end childhood hunger, and for the girl scouts of El Paso that is their mission
too.
Local bakeries have partnered with the girl scouts by donating their services and baked goods.
Scout director, Lisa Rosson states, “ It is wonderful to have bakeries like The Master’s Place,
Small Cakes, and Greggerson cake cottage partner will us for this fundraiser. The turn out is
expected to be huge”. Local bakeries were willing to over their aid for the simple reasoning that
no kid should be left hungry, and no kid should suffer from food insecurity.
“Hungry kids can not learn, and that means they will not reach their potential. We want to be
their voice, and we want to advocate for them”, said Lisa Rosson, scout director. “We are so
thankful for the parents, local bakeries, and volunteers who stepped forward to help us prepare
for this fundraiser”.
