2. I am going to watch the horror trailer „Dolly‟ that was produced last year by a student as it belongs to the genre
of horror. I am looking at this trailer piece of work as it is the same genre I am interested in producing a horror
trailer also.
I think this trailer is put together well as it has the majority of the typical horror conventions. For example, the
music. The trailer opens with slow, high pitched music, this instantly gives the impression that the trailer is for a
horror film as it sound creepy and morbid.
As the trailer goes on the music begins to build as it almost sounds like a choir. The young girl then picks up the
doll and the music begins to go deeper and louder, there are more layers of music and instruments used, this
makes it more dramatic. The instruments that are used also seem to change, this is a very typical convention
within horror.
The music then speeds up again and goes back to the pitch it was at the start, this suggests that the pace of the
trailer is going to speed up. Although the music is high pitched and fast, every so often there is a loud and deep
sound effect used, this shows the darkness of the film.
There is then a sound of a heart beat playing at the same time as the music, this helps build the tension. When
the young girl is in bed next to the doll the music builds more and gets louder and louder, it suggests danger.
After the screen goes black and there is a whisper saying “There‟s something wrong with Lilly.” The music
sounds is very dramatic as it is the same quick, deep note repeated as it shows different clips of the film.
Each time the note begins the clip changes, this increases the pace.
At the end of the trailer the music speeds up and gets louder as it gets nearer to the end, this has a great impact
on building the tension, it is typical of the horror convention for the trailer to get louder and faster towards the
end and then stop quickly, this is then followed by one last quick shot which is meant to scare the audience.

3. The first shot of this trailer is of the outside of a building, it is typical in the
horror genre as they genuinely show the place in which things are happening. The
camera then swings down to show a long shot of the two characters walking into
the building, it is ironic as the young girl is skipping which suggests innocence.
There is then a close up of the young girl as she is walking into the building, this
is to show that she is happy and again, it shows her innocence. The girl then turns
to face the camera as the older girl stays facing the other way, we then see a quick
medium shot of the doll which quickly changes to a close up, this shows the
importance of it.
After that there is another close up of the young girl as she asks to keep the doll,
and then a medium shot of her walking out holding it.
Then there is a medium shot of the young girl and the doll lying in bed, the doll is
closer to the camera than the girl and this makes it seem more powerful than the
girl.
