The Avengers was made by Marvel Studios and Paramount studios.
Paramount being one of the largest and highest ranked production companies is
clearly a popular choice of company to use. It has a made a range of movies for all
different genres and audiences as there films vary for kids cartoons to family
favourites to action and adult comedy. Including Shrek, Transformers, Mission:
Impossible ,Indiana Jones, Star Trek, Jackass, Beverly Hills Cop, "Crocodile"
Dundee, Madagascar, Kung Fu Panda, G.I. Joe, and Friday the 13th.
Marvel Studios creates superhero films, based on the comics written by marvel.
Including Iron Man, Thor, Captain America and The Hulk. This gives the studio a more
male audience and the age would depend on the particular film, some being to violent
for younger children.
The budget for The Avengers was $220,000,000 giving a profit of $623,279,547.
3.
Paranormal Activity was made by Solana Films and Blumhouse produtions.
Solana Films has only ever made Paranormal Activity making it not a very well known
company.
Blumhouse have only made scary films, e.g. The Purge and Insidious. They also have
a first look deal with Universal that enables them to see the films before anyone else
making them an increasingly more well known production company but is still
relatively unknown.
The budget for the film in total was $15,000 and approximately made $193,355,800
giving it a massive profit.
As both companies make scary films they are aimed at an older audience from around
15+ as there films would not be suitable for anyone younger. They also have a very
niche audience as not all people like to watch scary films but they do have the holiday
Halloween which is a perfect time for there market.
4. Similarities
There are some similarities between the companies we haven
chosen, they both regularly produce popular films which make a lot
of profit worldwide. The two main companies Marvel and Blumhouse
are very focused on the one specific genre meaning they know how
to work well with it and are constantly improving in that particular
genre.
Differences
The main difference is obviously how money they put into the films to start of with.
This links to my second difference of where they spend the money they put it,
Marvel hires well known actors to promote there film that everybody would not
also many have awards and a large fan base who will already watch the film,
whereas Blumhouse and Solana use people who are not very well known. Also
Marvel spend lots of money on special affects and computerised aspects,
whereas again Blumhouse and Solana don’t.
With low budget films not as much money is spent on advertising and promoting
the film and some do not make it to the cinema making it harder for people to hear
about them.
5. What’s better high or low budget ?
We think a high budget institution is better as it gives the films the most
opportunities to draw in a large fan base and become known as the AList actors bring in there fans and they want to watch films with there
beloved star in, also having the A-list stars in gives the movie a good
reputation and also much more money is spend on advertising
spreading the word and bringing in even more viewers. Finally they
spend more money putting the film in cinemas giving people a chance to
watch them in a better experience and also people that enjoy going to
the cinema will be more inclined to watch the movie.
