Have one designated contact person for
emergencies: this person should be listed on
website, pre-departure info for students,
etc.
Maintain printed and digital copies of
rosters of all students abroad; these should
be organized by region and then country
INCASEOFEMERGENCY
Students contact
designated contact
person and/or study
abroad advisor AS SOON
AS POSSIBLE with
health/safety/wellbeing
status
Contact person
checks students off on
roster as the contact
comes in, and makes
note of any students
in immediate danger.
If any student needs
help, contact person
will contact authorities
to aid the student, and
contact the parents
with plan of action.
Contact person keeps
everybody else in the
office posted, and
divides tasks if
necessary
Contact person
reassures students
and maintains open
communication with
them
Contact person relays
information on student safety
and contact to anyone on
campus who has a stake in
student wellbeing, i.e. the
dean, chancellor, student life,
etc. Contact person also
maintains open
communications with any
students' parents (per
FERPA regulations, though).
Office debriefs the
situation and
maintains
communication with
students; office offers
students resources
to cope with
whatever happened
(i.e. online support,
counseling, etc.)
