On April 23rd 2015, EHL hosted the 3rd edition of TEDxEcoleHôtelièreLausanne (TEDxEHL).
The exciting program brought inspiration from a wide diversity of disciplines. The event was
fostered towards learning, inspiration & wonder, by provoking conversations that
matter. The theme for this 3rd edition was “Feed Your Brain”.
For the first time, the event was organized by students only. A team of 20, headed by Elie
Vischel, worked tirelessly to bring this event from concept to realization, ensuring that every
detail was covered and the potential of this experience maximized at every opportunity.
The team created multiple designs in order to attract everyone's attention such as a Bio wall where 800 salads and
vegetables were hanging in recycled bottles or a masterpiece where more than 600 Nespresso capsules were used
to draw a unique and original picture representing the theme of this year: Feed Your Brain.
Ideas worth sharing – the topics
The half-day event attracted over 100 alumni, industry friends, staff & faculty, and students from all over the
globe. Additionally, the event was live-streamed around the world to alumni chapters, certified schools and open
to the public. We, the TEDx team, noticed that around 850 persons tuned in to watch the event live on the
Internet. We welcomed nine live speakers & performers with ideas worth sharing, and screened two great existing
TED talks.
Carlos Drews emphasized why “Species conservation starts at home” and shared with us the potential of new
social rituals, encouraging us to think mindfully on our behavior.
Rodney Reis provided insight into science and technology and inspired us to think on « What can astronauts
teach us about farming ?».
We watched Neil Harbisson ’s 2012 TED talk on “The sound of color. Harbisson's artwork blurs the
boundaries between sight and sound.

Michael Dupertuis shared his vision on the future product of our daily life. From a Business model, where
you buy things, to “Servicizing” making the transition to a sustainable business model.
Allison Bryan , musically accompanied by world-renowned pianist player Joe Hoo d, blew our mind with her
storytelling. No one wants to hear you sing: Life lessons from musical theatre. She inspired us to chase our
dreams no matter what obstacles we face.
A full-band beat box 2009 TED Talk on a one-of-a-kind R&B group Naturally 7 , beatboxes an orchestra’s
worth of instruments to groove through their smooth single, “Fly Baby”.
Philippe Guglielmetti revealed major breakthroughs in entrepreneurship and inspired the youth in the
audience to not think of age an obstacle.
Zaher Baraky , a current EMBA student at EHL, challenged the hospitality industry with his equation H=H,
which stands for Humanity = Hospitality, suggesting a way in which the industry can produce more skilled
workers.
Benjamin Firmenich , the Chef of the Day, linked ideas for success with food concepts, inspiring us to see
things in a completely different life. We learnt to pursue what we are passionate about because “without a
meaning, our job is dry”.
And last, but by no means least, Corinne Spielewoy , inspired by world leaders, shared her experiences with
the audience and showed us what we can achieve with the wisdom of management and life.
Sparking conversations that matter
Breaks were the occasion for discussions over ideas just heard, connections with new contacts, discoveries of
fantastic varieties of innovative and funky exhibitors.
“Fresh Salads” from one of our Speakers, “Healthy brain food” cooked by the team and “cookies & brownies”
baked by our very own “Meilleurs Ouvriers de France (MOF)” were also proposed.
TEDxEHL organic salads soon to be served at Food Court !
At the end of the event every attendee left with a recycled bottle containing 4 different salads.
At the end of the day, there were only 160 salads left (out of the 800 originaly presented on the Wall) ! They were
planted in the kitchen garden of EHL and will soon delight EHL students, either in the Food Court or in the
gastronomic restaurant Le Berceau des Sens.

View the videos online yourselves
The talks were all filmed and the videos were made available online. These will be used to spark conversations
that matter and inspire more throughout our networks and the wider public, including our huge alumni network
through specially designed viewing events.
The event was very successfully reviewed and there are already conversations about our TEDxEHL 2016. If you
have an idea worth sharing or know someone that does, we would love to hear from you.
If you would like to know more about the speakers, the content or watch the full videos, please visit
http://tedx.ehl.edu/ or the TEDxEHL channel on YouTube.
Thank you to our sponsors and speakers
We would like to express our sincere gratitude to all our sponsors (Masaba Coffee, Opaline, Terravin, Lausanne
Palace, Switcher, Planitswiss, EHL and LHC) and all the speakers who helped us make this event happen.
What are TED and TEDx?
There is a great movement around the world that seeks to continue to inspire us, generate wonder, spread ideas
from a huge breadth of perspectives and spark exciting conversations that matter. This movement has a video
platform sharing more than 1000 riveting talks by remarkable people, free to the world. Many talks have been
viewed millions of times. This movement is called “TED”.
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together
to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks videos and live speakers combine to spark deep
discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x =
independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but
individual TEDx events are self-organized and are subject to certain rules and regulations.
