TED
TED is a nonprofit devoted to Ideas Worth
Spreading. It started out in 1984 as a
conference bringing together people from the
worlds of Technology, Entertainment,
Design.
Since then its scope has grown. Along with
two annual conferences – the TED
Conference in Vancouver, Canada in Spring
2015, and TEDGlobal in Edinburgh, UK each
summer – TED includes the award-winning
TED Talks site, which makes over 1,500 of the
best talks and performances from TED and
partners available to the world for free, with
more added each week. Over 1,200 are
subtitled in Japanese!
Other initiatives include the Open Translation
Project, TED Fellows, the TEDx program and
the annual TED Prize.
4. TEDx was created in the spirit of TED’s mission,
Ideas Worth Spreading. The program is designed
to give communities, organizations and
individuals the opportunity to create their own
TED-like events at a local level.
TEDx events combine live presenters with
TEDTalk videos to spark deep conversation and
connections.
Started in 2009, the program has been embraced
by groups around the world in far greater
numbers than was ever expected, building on the
universal desire to share ideas.

6. TEDx TUJ is holding it’s first annual event this
year in July, 2015.
The idea behind TEDxTUJ is to allow a forum for
students to not only engage more with idea
leaders in their local community, but also to
engage with each other in stimulating debate and
collaboration. This event is also a connecting
bridge linking the main campus in Philadelphia
with the Tokyo campus.
TEDxTUJ is organized by a dedicated group of
students, alumni, and teachers all working
together to make this event a success.

8. ‘FORGING NEW PATHS’
Our theme this year is ‘Forging New Paths’, the
idea behind this is to bring together speakers from
different backgrounds and fields to speak on how
they achieved success through unorthodox means.
The word paths was chosen to represent the
sustainability of these alternative roads to success,
with the intention of presenting something that the
listeners could easily relate to and eventually adopt
themselves.
The background image of the water ripples is also
symbolic of the intention to “make ripples, not
waves” in the hopes of evoking positive change
that continues to have an effect even after the initial
event.
