3. Introduction, Structure and Operation of KEREA
KEREA is a non profit making Business Member Organization(BMO), focused to
improve the business environment of the Renewable Energy sector.
It was formed in August 2002 by the Renewable Energy Technical Committee
of the Kenya Bureau of Standards(KEBS) under section 10 of the Societies Act.
The association is governed by an executive committee of seven members
elected during an annual general meeting working on voluntary basis with an
administrator at the secretariat.
The EC represents small – medium enterprises companies in the RE sector, the
association can not sustain or depend on subscription fees from members.
The relationship with different developing partners and donors is crucial for
KEREA in order to achieve certain goals or conduct activities beneficial to
members and the industry at large

KEREA’S Vision is to provide a vibrant and conducive business environment
for renewable products and services in Kenya.
KEREA’S Mission is to facilitate the growth and development of renewable
energy business in Kenya.

5. KEREA Goals
To have quarterly renewable energy magazine for the Kenya
market. To provide an opportunity for the association’s members
to showcase their products, activities and services through
advertising. Estimated revenue is at Kshs.300,000.00 per
publication.
To organize an annual renewable energy day(a 2 day exhibition
event). Target market will be 100 to 200 locally based RE sector
players. Estimated revenue is at Kshs.500,000.00 per event.
To increase the number of members thus increasing the
contribution of subscriptions to KEREA’S annual revenue.
Estimated revenue is at Kshs.600,000.00 with a minimum of 60
members.

6. Objectives of KEREA
Increased awareness levels and adoption of renewable energy
technologies
Increase in the number of qualified renewable energy practitioners and
increase in skill level and improvement in the quality of products and
services provided
Pro-renewable energy policies and regulations and improved business
environment for renewable energy
Increased coordination between actors and stakeholders when developing
and implementing renewable energy initiatives
Diverse KEREA membership and increased collaboration/cooperation
between members and partners

7. Core Activities of KEREA
Promoting and creating awareness on renewable energy as well as
providing information on renewable energy markets, market actors and
technologies
Supporting training, capacity building and certification activities in
the renewable energy field and accreditation of renewable energy
product and service providers
Research for purposes of informing advocacy and lobbying activities
and to collect information on renewable energy products and markets
Pro-renewable energy lobbying and advocacy to improve the business
environment and encourage adoption
Networking, Business Linkages and Coordination, to facilitate and
encourage synergies between various activities e.g. programs, projects
and/or initiatives in the renewable energy field

8. Key activities over the last year.
Working Groups were formed after a proposal by members during an AGM. It was
formed in order to provide a platform for KEREA members in different sectors to discuss
challenges/opportunities that they feel can be addressed by KEREA.
Working groups are mainly suggested by the developers depending on the new
development at the time.
KEREA provides venue and facilitates communication to all the members involved
USSD Tool is currently inactive, KEREA is currently searching for partners to sustain and
develop the tool
East African Renewable Energy Federation(EAREF) is an association of the renewable
energy associations in East Africa: Kenya(KEREA),Burundi(BUREA), Rwanda(EPD),
Tanzania(TAREA) and Uganda(UNREEEA).
EAREF was formed in April 2018, among some of the benefits of the association is to
mobilizing investment in the sector between the member countries and to promise
business linkages.
The vision for this association to open a central office in Tanzania with an administrator
able to run the association’s projects

Full Corporate: This category is open to registered institutions,
renewable energy companies, NGOs, consultants, and other
organizations that have been active in renewable energy industry or
sector. Registration: 5,000 ; Annual Subscriptions: 20,000
Full Individual: This category is o pen to individuals, who are interested
or active in the renewable energy sector; including RE technicians and
students. Standard Registration: 2,500 ; Annual Subscriptions: 5,000)
Full Institutional: This category is open to institutions including
academia and regulatory; such as universities, technical training

10. What to gain as a KEREA Member
Business Linkages and Networks, by bringing together players in
the RE sector to enable creation of useful synergies and linkages
between institutions, organizations and businesses.
Capacity building, training activities, curriculum development
and certification activities in the RE field; accreditation of
renewable energy products and service providers.
Advocacy, KEREA will lobby and advocate for RE issues on the
basis of verifiable background and supporting information
Providing information on renewable energy markets and
provide a reference point for RE users and potential customers
