CURRICULUM ESSENTIALS
THE TEACHER AND THE SCHOOL
CURRICULUM
Types of Curricula Simultaneously Operating in School:
1. Recommended Curricula. Recommendations come in form of memoranda issued by
CHED, TESDA, and DepEd.
2. Written Curricula. This includes documents based on the recommended curricula.
3. Taught Curricula. From what has planned or written, the curriculum has to be
implemented or taught.
4. Supported Curricula. This is described as support materials that the needs to make
teaching and learning meaningful.
5. Assessed Curricula. Taught and supported curricula have to be evaluated to find out
if the teacher has succeeded or not in facilitating learning.
6. Learned Curricula. How do we know that a student has leaned. We always believed
that if a students changed behavior, s/he has learned.
7. Hidden/Implicit Curriculum. These are peer influence, school environment, media,
parental pressures, societal changes, cultural practices, natural calamities, etc.
THE TEACHER AS CURRICULARIST
1. Knows the curriculum. It is mastery of the subject matter.
2. Writes the curriculum. The teacher writes/prepares instructional
materials.
3. Plans the curriculum. The teacher makes yearly, monthly, and daily
plan of the curriculum.
4. Initiates the curriculum. The teacher implements recommended
curriculum.
5. Innovates the curriculum. A good teacher innovates the curriculum.
6. Evaluates the curriculum. The teacher evaluates if desired learning
outcomes have been achieved, if the curriculum is working, does the
curriculum bring desired results.
