2. • Finally when the arc get extinguishes a high frequency
voltage transient appears across the contacts. This occurs
due to contacts are nearer to each other.
• This high frequency transient tries to restrike the arc hence it
is called transient recovery voltage.
• Transient recovery voltage affects the behavior of circuit
breaker.
• This voltage appears immediately after final interruption.
• This causes high dielectric stress between contacts.
• If dielectric stress is less then arc is restrikes.
