The unparalleled contribution made by ‘people’ in shaping the destiny of a nation cannot be
over emphasized. In an organizational context, human resources have been recognized as
the most valued ‘capital’ that enables organizations to achieve economic development and
productivity growth whilst facilitating change, innovation and business sustenance. Human
Capital which comprises knowledge, skills, attitudes, creativity and social and personality
attributes must be thus harnessed proactively and productively; an art and a science that
must be mastered by all ‘People Managers’.
Our theme ‘Creating a new DNA for Human Capital Management’ stems from one singular
thought; to build a generation of passionate, innovative and visionary People Managers who
can transform the discipline of human capital management into a value creating business
partner for any public or private entity. The knowledge, skills, attitudes and values we
impart to our valued students will thus enable them to discover ‘the DNA for human capital
management’, hidden within them, so they are able to transform the HR discipline to become
the ‘nucleus’ of the world of work.

CREATING A NEW DNA FOR HUMAN CAPITAL MANAGEMENT6
MESSAGE FROM PRESIDENT, IPMSL
“People Management” is a term in ethics with several
meanings. It is often used synonymously with such
concepts as responsibility, answerability, enforcement,
blameworthiness, motivation and other terms associated
with the expectation of “HR-giving”.
With the above note, I am delighted to pen this message to
the IPM Prospectus – 2014.
Sri Lanka has a rather impressive history of achievements in
rates rank high among the developing nations. However,
we still lag behind in achieving our goals required through
innovative and creative people participation. The lack
of quality education to develop creative people skills of
students is perhaps a big concern for the country. Thankfully,
Human Resource Development through creative business
thinking is now a primary requisite in improving the economy
as well as the quality of life.
I am glad to convey that the Institute is determined and
has indeed taken necessary steps to carry forward the
development process of professional HR education. We
aim to equip the younger generation with HR skills and
competencies needed to face the challenges of the modern
means, by imbibing and putting into practice the numerous
professional HR programmes associated with IPM.
I also wish to assure you that the IPM will play a leading role
in facilitating professional HR education and thereby the
development of the knowledge economy of the entire nation
to strengthen the economy and to support the development
of our country.
While personally appreciating you for choosing IPM as the
professional educational partner to enhance the quality
of your life, I sincerely wish you all the very best for every
success in your future endeavours.

MESSAGE FROM CEO, IPMSL
“Good” may be good enough for some. But anyone worth his
salt should go beyond that! “Good to great”, sounds cliché tic,
yet that’s exactly what Team IPM constantly strives to do! That
resolve makes IPM lead a nation in Human Resources; nurturing
leaders in HRM, who even years later, will be remembered for
what they accomplished. So let’s go for greatness!. In today’s age
of knowledge sharing, what has emerged unequivocally is that
the study and application of the principles of Human Resource
and by extension towards the whole gamut of leadership. And it’s
not only a mere collection of academic laurels, hoping to lead –
that’s a dead end! Today’s leaders are expected to be innovators,
the bigger picture deploying both their ‘left and right brains’. After
that you have opened the pages of IPM’s Prospectus for 2014 is in
and opportunities that an in-depth awareness of Human Resource
Management and what Human Resource Development entails.
The IPM Prospect for 2014 would help you to study HRM in the
most apt manner, whilst encouraging you to research the optimum
means and methods of utilizing the principles and techniques
of HRM. Therefore, I urge you to peruse all contents before
eventually settling in selecting the Course or Programme that
HRM applications and tools into their thinking process that would
not only for school leavers and job seekers but for all others – in
whatever Trade, Business, Vocation or any pursuit that deals with
teachers, students and indeed job seekers and those already
employed; professionals who wish to heighten their knowledge
of HR and enhance their academic credentials. The IPM would
continue to serve this lovely island we call home in proactively
developing and creating a learning experience to students and
professionals alike now and in the future.

IPM LIBRARY
The IPM Library is one of the most sought-after resource
centres for the country’s HR fraternity. Stocked with a
rich collection of HR and business management resource
material, the library contains a special collection of
management books, Business Journals, sample project
reports, business directories and a comprehensive
collection of academic and business-centric information
vital for both students and the membership. IPM’s main
library which is located at HR House in Narahenpita is
regarded as Sri Lanka’s largest HR library while the two
mini-libraries established at the Kandy Regional Centre
and Kurunegala Study Centre respectively are fast gaining
popularity among the public in the area.
A FACULTY PAR EXCELLENCE
The academic faculty of IPM Sri Lanka consists of the
country’s most sought-after members of the academia
possess years of rich, hands-on experience in their chosen
teaching and work, the resource persons are able to
provide the students the necessary support and guidance
they need to succeed in their studies as well as in work.
THE IDEAL LEARNING ENVIRONMENT
Creating a conducive learning environment has been one
of the key features in IPM’s study programmes where
‘small classes’ that are well equipped with teaching aids
is the ‘model’ adopted by the Institute. This enhances the
degree of ‘learning acquisition’ and ‘interaction’ between
the student and lecturer and provides an opportunity for
the students to clarify issues, express their view points
and enter into healthy discussions thereby reinforcing
their learning.

In an organizational context, human resources have been recognized as the most valued ‘capital’ that enables organizations to achieve economic development and productivity growth whilst facilitating change, innovation and business sustenance. Human Capital which comprises knowledge, skills, attitudes, creativity and social and personality attributes must be thus harnessed proactively and productively; an art and a science that must be mastered by all ‘People Managers’. Our theme ‘Creating a new DNA for Human Capital Management’ stems from one singular thought; to build a generation of passionate, innovative and visionary People Managers who can transform the discipline of human capital management into a value creating business partner for any public or private entity. The knowledge, skills, attitudes and values we impart to our valued students will thus enable them to discover ‘the DNA for human capital management’, hidden within them, so they are able to transform the HR discipline to become the ‘nucleus’ of the world of work. It is often used synonymously with such concepts as responsibility, answerability, enforcement, blameworthiness, motivation and other terms associated with the expectation of “HR-giving”. With the above note, I am delighted to pen this message to the IPM Prospectus – 2014. Sri Lanka has a rather impressive history of achievements in rates rank high among the developing nations. However, we still lag behind in achieving our goals required through innovative and creative people participation. The lack of quality education to develop creative people skills of students is perhaps a big concern for the country. Thankfully, Human Resource Development through creative business thinking is now a primary requisite in improving the economy as well as the quality of life. I am glad to convey that the Institute is determined and has indeed taken necessary steps to carry forward the development process of professional HR education. We aim to equip the younger generation with HR skills and competencies needed to face the challenges of the modern means, by imbibing and putting into practice the numerous professional HR programmes associated with IPM. I also wish to assure you that the IPM will play a leading role in facilitating professional HR education and thereby the development of the knowledge economy of the entire nation to strengthen the economy and to support the development of our country. While personally appreciating you for choosing IPM as the professional educational partner to enhance the quality of your life, I sincerely wish you all the very best for every success in your future endeavours.
