It is my pleasure to provide a reference for Dina ‘Dunia’ Kadoumi, with whom I have worked
since March 2013.
Dunia has worked as an assistant in the communication department of the ICRC in
Jerusalem since 2008.
During this time she has proven to be a dedicated, committed and very good-natured
colleague who is both quick and determined to perform to her best ability. Dunia is highly
motivated with a strong sense of ideals. She is particularly drawn to the ICRC’s work in
places of detention, and is proud to have contributed to our efforts in this domain.
Among Dunia’s numerous activities over the years of her work here was the daily media
monitoring, especially the Arabic print news media. She carefully selected relevant news
items, translated them into English and informed colleagues of key developments of interest
to them. More recently, Dunia spearheaded the redesign of our media monitoring format,
helping to implement a new design and workflow which was challenging for a large
organisation with diverse news monitoring needs. In this regard, Dunia took special initiative
to introduce specific design elements to make this product more accessible and visually
attractive.
Dunia was also responsible for the information, book and DVD library, which she organized
meticulously, and promoted with enthusiasm to her ICRC colleagues and contacts, across
the West Bank, Gaza and in Israel, and in coordination with ICRC’s regional communication
center in Cairo, and the headquarters in Geneva. Dunia developed a strong working
knowledge of ICRC’s many and varied print and audio-visual products, and help us to
maintain an up-to-date library on this much written-about context.
It has been a privilege to work with a colleague who is caring and considerate of her
colleagues, but professional and passionate about her work at the same time. I have learned
a lot from Dunia and it is unfortunate that she will be leaving us due to a broader
restructuring of the ICRC in Israel and the OPT.
I would not hesitate to recommend Dunia for any position to which she would apply.
