the term

handwriting.
 Was seen snapping at her friends multiple
times during group work.

TYPES OF REPORT CARD COMMENTS IN KWS
GENERAL COMMENTS: HOME
ROOM TEACHERS
Written by HRTs
• Comment on students’ general
behavioral aspects like socialization,
self management and overall learning
attitude.
• Must include any specific achievement
students may have achieved outside
academics.
• Must be individualized
SUBJECT SPECIFIC COMMENTS:
SUBJECT TEACHERS
Written by subject teachers
• Comment on subject specific skills and
achievement of students
• Should highlight strengths as well as
areas of improvement
• A single comment with a few specific
tweaking could work for a group of 4-5
students.
HONEST BUT CONSTRUCTIVE
A voracious reader of fiction, A surpasses herself
every day in her oratorical skills which is her
greatest strength. She possesses a tremendous
ability of logical reasoning and putting forth her
arguments very lucidly. I’ve seen her helping her
friends as well on numerous occasions which
reflects her down-to-her and cooperative nature.
She needs to take things easily at times and not
panic too much. She would also do well to take
setbacks sportingly.
B is a child who loves to come to school and has a
good sense of humor. His basketball skills have
improved by leaps and bounds as he has been
putting a lot of effort into it. Well-liked by all hid
friends, he is struggling a bit though in time
management and self-management skills. This has
also had bearing on his academics this term and is
hence suggested to work on the same next term.

SUBJECT SPECIFIC COMMENTS
A’s strength is his ability to critically respond to
text. It needs certain amount of persuasion on
teacher’s part to make him speak and present his
arguments but when he does it, he does it well. He
needs to work on elaborating and building up on his
ideas as he has a habit of being complacent and
stopping short when he can actually achieve more.
He is strongly advised to read English newspaper
dailies on a regular basis.
A is an average student. He doesn’t show interest
in taking part in class discussions. He is lazy in
doing his assignments and doesn’t care to
elaborate his answers.

TO SUM IT UP
Comments:
• describe in overall terms what students know, can do and understand
• avoid language that simply repeats the wordings of the curriculum expectations or the
achievement chart
• use language that parents/guardians will understand
• provide parents/guardians with personalized, clear, precise, and meaningful feedback
• help parents/guardians understand how they can support their children at home
Thank You
