11. • EXPLORATION STAGE: Hong Kong has experienced strong growth in inbound tourism
in the last decade. Being the hub of many Asian airlines, Hong Kong has been one of the
most popular travel destinations in India. The change in sovereignty on July 1 , 1997 has
drawn tremendous attention from the whole world to Hong Kong .
• INVOLVEMENT STAGE: To facilitate entry of visitors, various measures were introduced in
2002. The Individual Visit Scheme (IVS) was introduced on 28 July 2003. The scheme has
been gradually extended .
• DEVELOPMENT STAGE: The HKTB continues to promote the destination to business and
leisure travelers through its worldwide “ Hong Kong – Live it, Love it!” campaign. The
HKTB has designated 2006 as “Discover Hong Kong year
• CONSOLIDATION STAGE: In the year 2014 60.84million tourist arrivals were recorded.
• STAGNATION STAGE: between 2015-17 there were over tourisms and accommodation
facilities suffered.
• REJUVENATION A:In 2018 Hong Kong again take place in market it was fully established as
Rejuvenation stage. The overnight the growth of visitor was 7.2%. As this was the stage A
but because of protest in 2019 they have moved to Rejuvenation stage B
• REJUVENATION B: Due to protest in 2019 tourism suffered and then now is slowly gaining
back its tourists.

record accelerated at a slow pace. Mainland china is a huge source of
income and visitors did not disappoint.

• The local residents’ attitudes towards the Mainland Chinese tourists visiting
Hong Kong and identifies both the extrinsic and intrinsic factors influencing
these attitudes.
• Results showed that Hong Kong residents perceive Mainland Chinese tourists
very positively due to their important role in Hong Kong’s economic
development.
• However, it is undeniable that their negative and dissatisfactory attitudes are
also very apparent.
• Based on the findings, Hong Kong residents can be defined as “ambivalent
supporters,” and the negative impact of this attitude on tourism development in
Hong Kong is becoming very influential.
• In the long run, how to change local residents from “ambivalent supporters to
“ardent supporters” needs to be addressed in order to ensure the healthy
development of Hong Kong inbound tourism.
• So Hong Kong is in the antagonism stage as there is a lot of tourist and irritation
stage has passed on they don’t really care.
