FYI Engineering’s Proposal for RFP No. 432 - 081324
Traffic Study, Bridge Analysis, and Intersection Improvements
To: Mr. J.J. Matthews, PE; Sandy Springs Municipal Engineer
From: Mr. Derek Vitterman, PE; President of FYI Engineering
Subject: FYI Proposal for RFP No. 432 - 081324
Date: November 2nd, 2013
Mr. Matthews,
I would first like to extend our thanks on behalf of FYI Engineering (FYI) for this opportunity to be considered for providing
engineering services in the form of a Traffic Study, Bridge Analysis, and Intersection Improvements at the intersection
of Heatherwood Road and Windy Parkway. Upon studying this RFP, our Municipal Department gained a thorough
understanding of the scope of work for this project. This understanding includes:
• The Contractor is to complete a traffic study of the Heatherwood Road and Windy Parkway intersection. This traffic
study includes public hearings with community stakeholders to gather input.
• The Contractor will furnish recommendations and plans for signaling, expansion, improvements, and traffic alleviation
for the aforementioned intersection. FYI will furnish these deliverables in a timely manner to the City.
• Accompanying all aforementioned recommendations and plans, the Contractor will conduct a structural analysis of the
Windy Parkway Bridge, adjacent to the Heatherwood Road and Windy Parkway intersection.
• The Contractor will submit a report to the City with recommendations for structural improvements to Windy Parkway
Bridge. These recommendations will reflect improvements at the intersection of Heatherwood Road and Windy
Parkway.
• If and when the City approves these plans for construction, the Contractor will stand ready to provide construction
oversight from the beginning of the project to its completion.
FYI’s Municipal Department has already risen to this challenge by conducting preliminary site visitations, garnering a clear
visual of the unique challenges facing this busy intersection. Furthermore, the Municipal Department has already collected
site photos and past RFPs concerning this intersection, gathering data to formulate a project approach. Performing these
tasks in advance has lent us insight and certainty in presenting this proposal to the City of Sandy Springs.
FYI Engineering has also partnered with ACME Hydrological, Co., a hydrological engineering firm with whom we have
worked for over 15 years. FYI will manage this project from start to finish, and our Municipal Department Manager, Mr.
Alexander Hayes, PE, will serve as the Project Manager, Point of Contact, and liaison between FYI, ACME, and the City
of Sandy Springs throughout this project. All finished products will undergo my final analysis and personal approval.
Lastly, FYI is acting as the Project Administrator for this RFP and will report directly to the City. In so doing, our company
has already secured qualifying insurance under the regulations of this RFP. Please see the Appendices for details.
If I can be of any assistance, please do not hesitate to contact me personally. Again, thank you for your consideration.
Sincerely,
Mr. Derek Vitterman, PE
