• The National Leprosy control programme (NLCP) has been in operation since –
1955
• NLCP started to achieve control of leprosy through early detection of cases and
DDS(dapsone) monotherapy.

• National AIDS control programme launched in India in 1987
• 1986 - National AIDS Committee established
• 1992 - National AIDS Control Board constituted - NACO set-up

• 2004 Anti-retroviral treatment initiated.

• National programme for control of Blindness is launched in -1976
• It incorporates earlier trachoma control programme started in – 1968
• Most common cause of blindness in India is –Cataract

• Eye donation fortnight is observed from 25th August to 8th September every year.

• This Programme was launched in - 1975-76
• The programme was revised in - 1984-85, and subsequently in Dec. 2004.

13. Child survival and safe motherhood
programme
• It is stared in August, 1992 and implemented with financial assistance
from world bank and UNICEF.
• One of the leading causes of maternal mortality (about 19% of maternal
death) is - Anemia
• The first dose of vitamin A (l lakh IU) is administered at 9 month of age,
