CONTRAST AND COMPARISON MODSTANDSBEVÆGELSEN • Non-violent resistance moving towards violence in response to Germany’s actions. • Worked to unite the people of Denmark regardless of religion, culture and ethnicity. • Rescued not only Danish Jews but as many other prisoners saving them from inevitable death. WESTERN COLONIALISM/ IMPERIALISM • No hesitation to use violent means as a way of getting what they want. • No hesitation to invade and colonise other countries. • Segregated Jewish people into concentration camps.

LETS EXPLORE AND COMPARE… BENEFITS • Unite Danish people • Saving the lives of many Danish Jews along with the lives of countless other concentration camp prisoners. • Limited the invasion to southern Denmark. LIMITATIONS • They had to plan their actions meticulously, only being able during specific times and days for fear of being caught, tortured and killed. • Many lives lost due to the shear brutality and strength of the Germans.

Denmark is often cited as one of the world's best countries to live in. The strong welfare state ensures economic equality in society and the virtual non-existence of corruption, while polls repeatedly show that the Danes are among the happiest people in the world. - Modstandsbevægelsen means “the Danish resistance” and is the umbrella term that is used to identify the many sub groups that worked collaboratively to fight the German invasion of Denmark during World War II. The Modstandsbevægelsen used a number of methods to fight colonisation beginning with non-violent resistance however eventually they had to use violence as Germany had more weapons, more men and had no hesitation to use violence and are still active today encouraging the Danish people to learn their traditional values and culture with the hopes of moving away from the westernised culture that has developed within Denmark. The Modstandsbevægelsen achieved a number of significant things, beginning with uniting the Danish people during World War II in their fight against Germany. They also worked collaboratively with the Danish royal family to support talks with Germany to limit the invasion. This meant that the Danes agreed to annexed two southern regions to Germany while the Germans agreed to pull their troops out of Denmark leaving the country relatively unscathed in comparison to many other countries that Germany had invaded.
