Prevention is better than cure. We need to create a “Process” where constructive emotional management is an automatic “Result”.
The 1st Step is – Taking sole responsibility of how & why you feel the way you feel? Self-Awareness, Emotional Agility & Emotional Resilience are at the foundation of “Managing Your Emotions”.
Emotional Agility 4 step process – 1. Facing your emotions with curiosity & kindness, 2. Stepping out to observe & think about your emotions, 3. Walking your “Why” to move in a right direction, 4. Keep Moving on by taking a small step at a time.
We have already learnt that Emotional Resilience comprise of 6 key aspects – 1. Knowing your real nature, 2. Empty your mind, 3. Embrace positive psychology, 4. Accept suffering, 5. Control Compass, 6. Purposeful Thinking
You getting disturbed & emotional about the things which are not in your control is your fault.
Your firm beliefs on what is right and wrong, what is good and bad, your desire to get respect, your expectations from people around you to behave in a certain way are the root-causes of your emotional issues.
You taking responsibility of your emotions is the starting point of your emotional management.
HRT replaces the hormones that a woman's body no longer produces because of the menopause.
Women might experience emotional changes &mood swings throughout the menstrual cycle.
The estrogen hormone is linked closely with the emotional well-being of women. This is clear because women feel anxiety, depression and other emotional effects during estrogen-producing years a lot more often than men. Estrogen is linked to the mood disruptions. Your serotonin drops when your period starts.
In particular, estrogen is known to take women for a rollercoaster ride. It rises slowly just before menstruation hits, but then drops suddenly when you start bleeding. Then it increases once again when your period ends, only to peak two weeks later. Dr. Dweck also names progesterone as another hormone affecting your mood swings, since it also drops significantly whenever your period starts. However, right before you menstruate, during your PMS days, your progesterone levels are pretty high, which could account for feeling dreary or hopeless.
Pranayama is a collection of breathing exercises developed by the ancient yogis for purification, mental focus rejuvenation, and healing. Prana translates into “life force energy,” and Yama translates into “control or mastery of.” Thus, pranayama is a breathing technique used to control, cultivate, and modify the amount, quality, flow, and direction of vital energy in the body.
When your prana flow or energy channels are blocked or restricted, you may experience a lack of focus and negative emotions like anxiety, fear, worry, tension, depression, anger, and grief. When your prana or energy channels are open and flowing freely and smoothly the mind becomes calm, focused, happy, positive, and enthusiastic. Thus, through the skillful and conscious use of our breathing, we can affect and regulate our emotional states.
Tip- Dark chocolate, which is also rich in antioxidants, can lower levels of stress hormones in the body.
Carbohydrates can increase levels of serotonin, a chemical in the body that helps boost mood and reduce stress .Hence, in diet, stopping the intake of carbs altogether is not good for emotional management.
