Based in Tucson, AZ, Dr. David Kim is an ophthalmologist at Arizona Eye Consultants. Before
joining his current practice, Dr. David Kim specialized in restorative surgeries and taught several
clinical courses. During his training, Dr. Kim completed a fellowship with a specialty in glaucoma at
the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Contrary to popular belief, glaucoma is not just one disease, but a collection of several different
diseases that can affect the optic nerve. Glaucoma often shows no symptoms until irreversible
damage has already been done to the eyes. For this reason, it is sometimes called the “sneak thief
of sight.”

Common risk factors for glaucoma include intraocular pressure and certain conditions of the optic
nerves and corneas. Because these are things patients would never notice on their own, regular
screenings are important.

drainage pathways.
