2. Sikkim on Indian map
Sikkim, state of India, located in the
northeastern part of the country, in
the eastern Himalayas. It is one of the
smallest states in India. Sikkim is
bordered by the Tibet Autonomous
Region of China to the north and
northeast, by Bhutan to the
southeast, by the Indian state of West
Bengal to the south, and by Nepal to
the west. The capital is Gangtok, in
the southeastern part of the state.
3. Tathagata Tsal (Buddha Park)
The Buddha Park of Ravangla,
also known as Tathagata Tsal,
is situated near Ravangla in
South Sikkim district, Sikkim,
India. It was constructed
between 2006 and 2013 and
features a 130-foot high
statue of the Buddha as its
centerpiece, erected to mark
the 2550th anniversary of the
birth of Gautama Buddha.
4. Dhan Naach
Dhan Naach is a folk dance of
Sikkim performed by the
Nepalese community to
celebrate the crop harvest, i.e.,
paddy. It is one of the oldest
traditional and cultural heritage
preserved and followed by the
farming community, which is
witnessing the enthusiastic
participation of both young and
old .
5. Sikkimese Cuisine
Sikkimese cuisine is the cuisine
of the state of Sikkim, located in
northeastern India. Rice is a
staple food, and fermented
foods traditionally constitute a
significant portion of the cuisine.
Nepalese cuisine is popular, as
Sikkim is the only state of India
with an ethnic Nepali majority
6. Sikkim People
There are three ethnic groups in Sikkim-
Lepchas, Bhutias and Nepalese. The three ethnic
groups of people represent a synthesis of three
diverse cultures..
7. The Losoong festival
Losoong is the Sikkimese New
Year, of the Bhutia tribe,
celebrated every year in the
month of December. It falls on
the 18th day of the 10th month,
when farmers celebrate the
harvest . It is a traditional festival
of the Bhutias, but the Lepchas
also celebrate it and call it
Namsoong .
