After completing his mandatory 2-1/2 year national service at 21, Devandran Karunakaran moved to the United Kingdom to pursue his independence and begin his professional career. Karunakaran attended the University of Leicester to study law, one of the top research institutions renowned for providing students with advanced learning opportunities. Mr. Karunakaran excelled in contract law, a subset of law that focuses on governing, enforcing, and interpreting legal and commercial agreements between businesses. He was also particularly fascinated by public international law, also known as the Law of Nations. This legal framework comprises a set of norms and legal guidelines that regulate international relations. Devandran fondly remembers the diverse backgrounds and ethnicities of the students he met and befriended while studying at Leicester University. Many of those close friendships he formed still last to this day. For instance, his university housemate was the best man at his wedding to his wife.

Devandran Karunakaran was born and raised in Singapore, home to one of the world's busiest
and largest ports. This backdrop of a bustling metropolitan culture centered on the economics of
practical import and export was an initial factor in his decision to concentrate his early legal
career on advising offshore and renewable energy firms and representing clients in ship
financing transactions.
Mr. Karunakaran was raised in a happy and loving home, where his mother specialized in
preparing traditional Southeast Asian cuisine, and his father was the principal of an international
school. The majority of his extended family still resides in Singapore.

During his tenure at the university, Mr. Karunakaran competed at the university level as a
member of the rugby team. Devandran traveled to London to begin his legal career after

multinational law company headquartered in the United Kingdom.
Professional Activities
The trainee solicitor market in the United Kingdom is very competitive, with few training
contracts. Yet, this training program is required to become a UK solicitor. He was fortunate to
obtain a training contract with a prestigious UK legal practice. This was a chance that he could
not pass up. Therefore, following graduation, he moved to London instead of Singapore.
Mr. Karunakaran resided in London for about thirteen years and now considers it his second
home. In addition, he made numerous professional and personal connections that led him to
work for two international legal firms and spend time living and working in Piraeus, Greece.

5. Devandran Karunakaran, known and renowned for his technical legal understanding, opted to
specialize in ship finance law and offshore energy and renewables. In these roles, he strives to
integrate his technical legal knowledge with commercial and business acumen for the benefit
and profit of his clients.
Finally, in 2020, Devandran joined PT Indo Energy Solutions as an all-encompassing advisor to
the board of directors. While the company's headquarters are in Indonesia, Devandran
maintained his residence in Singapore and commuted to various regions of Indonesia as the job
required.
Personal Affairs and Interests
He met his future wife, Cornelia, after returning to Singapore in 2015. At the time, Cornelia was
working in Germany and was on secondment to Singapore. She is from Halle, Germany, now
Devandran's second city.
Mr. Karunakaran enjoys cooking and being close to and attentive to his parents. He received a
passion for culinary arts from his mother, aunts, and grandmother, who are all exceptional
cooks. He desires not only to create the dishes he enjoyed as a child but also to do so in a
healthy and balanced manner.
Cornelia and Devandran are extremely concerned about the state of global ecology. They
pursue sustainable living whenever possible to leave their daughter with a healthy environment.
Mr. Karunakaran has established a personal objective to engage in more environment-related
volunteer activity in the future years. He is currently engaged in voluntary work linked to food
security since, in his opinion, no one should go hungry in this day and age.
Travel is another interest shared by Devananda Karunakaran and his family. He and his wife
had visited Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, Switzerland, and Australia, where their respective
occupations took them before they met. Their goal is to instill a passion for travel and seeing
new locations in their young daughter.
Being physically fit is also a significant aspect of his family's lifestyle. In addition to eating
healthy foods, they engage in physical activity, get lots of fresh air, and use natural foods to heal
and nourish the body.
Devandran Karunakaran and his family participate in philanthropy because they recognize their
good fortune. In this regard, they have contributed to aiding Ukrainian refugees. Moreover, he
contributed his time and knowledge as a trustee for a Hindu temple with which his family is
affiliated.
