What Is The Difference Between WordPress.com and
WordPress.org?
It is normal to feel confused and unsure which one you should use. In fact many
people think they are the same. But that is not the case as they are actually two
different platforms.
If you download WordPress through WordPress.org you will be taking care of the
hosting. This is why it is often referred to as self-hosted WordPress.
WordPress.com is on the other hand the platform which is based on the
WordPress.org software. So essentially you are not going to need to download the
software and there will be no need for you to host it yourself as with WordPress.com
you will be getting the hosting service too, but as a subdomain of WordPress.com.
In short your WordPress.com blog will be a YourSite.WordPress .com
WordPress.com was been created by Matt Mullenweg.
Each of these two versions has its own pros and cons.
You may decide to use either one or the other in reality. However, it is better to be
aware of some key aspects so as to make the best possible choice.
The most fundamental point is that with WordPress.com you would not have to worry
about hosting.

free hosting plan is quite good though. There will obviously be WordPress.com ads,
and certain limitations, such as the fact that one would have a sub domain and a
maximum of 3GB.

.Org
On the free plan you won't have the possibility of installing your own themes or
plugins either.
However,
apart from this, it is a good option if you are looking into a free way of creating and
hosting a free blog.
On the other hand, if you prefer to take care of the hosting yourself, and have a more
professional domain address (i.e YourSite. Com) then you should go with
WordPress.org.
In this case you will be using WordPress for free, but you would be paying for the
hosting. So setting up a blog this way is not going to come completely for free.
However,
with this option you would get to purchase a domain name from the hosting provider
of your choice, and there are better customization options on WordPress.org than
those you would find on WordPress.com.
