2. • Instructional design and technology, otherwise
called ID&T is “the field of instructional design and
technology [that] encompasses the analysis of
learning and performance problems, and the design,
development, implementation, evaluation, and
management of instructional and non-instructional
processes and resources intended to improve
learning and performance in a variety of settings,
particularly educational institutions and the
workplace.”

3. Analysis of
ID&T
• The field of instructional technology has gone through many different
changes over time. Since the discipline is constantly changing, the
description and labeling of the field are always altering. The labels
ranged from the term media in the 1900s to now instructional design
and technology because of the ideas and innovations that are now
accompanying the domain. Reiser and Dempsey’s definition captures
the discipline since their description encapsulates the “two main
aspects of the field, that is, design and technology.” (Reiser and
Dempsey, 2018). When one isolates the three terms that describe the
field, a similar definition is formed. As an illustration, instructional
design can be described as the act of creating something that will be
used to provide instruction. I propose that the space or place where the
instruction takes place isn’t necessarily a key factor for the definition.
Therefore, whether it be for education or the workplace, as long as the
instruction is taking place through the mechanisms, design, and
application of technology, then it can be classified as instructional
design and technology. In a nutshell, “instructional design and
technology [can be] refer[ed] to [as] the use of technology to design,
develop, and implement the instruction.” (Sorensen, 2021)
