INTRODUCTION
Anganwadi is a type of rural mother and child care center in India. They were started by the
Indian government in 1975 as part of the Integrated Children Development Services program
to combat child hunger and malnutrition. Anganwadi means "Courtyard Shelter" in Indian
languages. A typical Anganwadi center provides basic health care in Indian villages. It is a part
of the Indian public health care system. Basic health care activities include contraceptive
counseling, nutrition, education and food supplementation, Medicine supply as well as pre-
Anganwadi activities. The centers may be used as depots for oral rehydration salts, basic
medicines and contraceptives.
The observation was aimed to assess the facilities and services being provided at the
Anganwadi Centers (AWCs) by the Anganwadi workers with regards to the norms laid down
by Integrated Child development Service (ICDS) scheme, with special emphasis on the
children of 0 to 6 years of age. The interaction with Anganwadi Kendra leads to “increased

This includes having a better vision to understanding the primary healthcare and education.
