Re: Deborah Hansen
To Whom it May Concern:
I do not usually give letters of recommendation, particularly regarding individuals who
have not either been in my employ or who worked with me on a daily basis, either as a colleague
or as part of a larger common effort, because I recognize that accurately assessing someone’s
qualifications in a different context, and in a location distant from my own, can be difficult.
However, when Deborah Hansen requested that I provide her with a letter recommendation, I did
not hesitate to do so, because my dealings with Ms. Hansen over a period of several years gave
me sufficiently frequent opportunities to gauge the competence and skill with which she
performed multiple and complex duties, often in very challenging logistical and personal
circumstances.
I dealt with Ms. Hansen in my capacity as special legal counsel to the Morongo Band of
Mission Indians while she was employed as an executive assistant to elected tribal officials and
senior staff. My office is in San Rafael, California, so I relied heavily on Ms. Hansen to
accurately convey information between my law firm and the tribal government. She did so
without fail and efficiently, often while traveling with tribal officials in Sacramento, Washington,
D.C., and elsewhere,or under pressure of having to respond to multiple demands from multiple
sources.
From my first meeting with Ms. Hansen in 2003, I was immediately impressed with the
tireless enthusiasm, professionalism, adaptability and sheer competence that she brought to her
position. She unfailingly dealt with difficult situations with grace and skill. My regard for Ms
Hansen’s abilities, including her ability to perform well unde~ extremely stressful conditions,
grew over time as I had additional opportunities to interact with her.
One of her attributes that impressed me most was her ability to work closely, well and
cheerfully even with people (like me) who have sharply differing attitudes and opinions. Over the
years, Ms. Hansen and I have had some spirited discussions on a variety of controversial issues
about which we have disagreed, but our principled differences of opinion enhanced, rather than
diminished, our mutual respect and our ability to work together in a common cause.

In the course of her tenure with my client, Ms. Hansen was exposed to an unusual array of
people, including elected and appointed officials (and staffs) ~t all levels of the federal, tribal,
State, county and municipal governments, entertainment celebrities, high-level business and
finance executives, and people from all walks of life and all levels of education, experience and
personal wealth. In my experience, she always related well to all of them, and they to her. In
short, 1 would not hesitate to hire Ms. Hansen were a position available in my law firm and were
she to live in reasonable proximity to my office.
Please feel free to contact me if you would like to discuss Ms. Hansen’s qualifications
further.
Very truly yours,
