Let’s give Delaware’s
emergency responders the
modern technology tools they
deserve

First responders will tell you that com-
munication is one of the most important
aspects of emergency response. Yet when
a disaster occurs, wireless networks can be
overwhelmed by citizens attempting to reach
loved ones or emergency services, often
disrupting communication among our first
responders.
It has become clear that our first respond-
ers need a communications network dedi-
cated to their use when they need it. That’s
where FirstNet comes in.
FirstNet -- a new nation-
wide wireless broadband net-
work for public safety -- will
help local, state, and national
first responders better protect
the lives of those across Delaware and across the nation. With FirstNet,
first responders can better communicate and coordinate with one another
on a reliable and highly-secure network. And, to help improve response
time, emergency responders will be able to share critical information in
near real-time, even across city or state lines.
Emergency responders need modern communications technology to
better protect the public and themselves. Many first responders still rely
on outdated 20th century technology that hasn’t kept pace with the inno-
vations of today. This long-awaited and crucial network will transform
the way our first responders communicate and, by opting in to FirstNet,
Delaware will be positioned as a leader in public safety communications.
Opting in to FirstNet – and doing so early – is sound public policy.
There is no financial risk to the state. And, Delaware first responders will
have immediate access to FirstNet service, including quality of service and
priority service, on AT&T’s existing nationwide LTE network. In addition,
FirstNet will drive innovation and additional mobile broadband deploy-
ment, including in rural areas, which is consistent with the Governor’s
“Action Plan for Delaware.”
