1 Hypothesis
Citizens want to work with their
utilities to grow the economy
Utilities want to
grow their revenue
But their revenue is decreasing and they are
fighting this with a system of higher tariffs
and service fees which are further damaging
their business model

Decreasing costs
Costs have decreased for many things, and allowed
almost everyone world wide to have a better standard
of living than in the past. Anyone with hot running
water and a warm house has more luxury than the
kings of the Middle Ages

3 What don't we need?
Utilities are scared of
"grid defection"
I also don't want this because once someone has defected
from the grid, their possibility of interacting with the grid is
lost, and their ability to be a part of a new distributed utility
model is lost. And their ability to help the economy grow
faster is lost.
A loss of goodwill from the general
population to the utilities

Roof top owners become IPP's and
power stations and act like big users, as
part of the new utility model
IPP = Independent

Electricity is banked. The client's sell
rate is 80% of the buy rate
Time Of Use Tariffs
With a new structure
and no service fee
No service fee because otherwise
there will be grid defection

For cooking, washing machines, heavy loads
that can we requested and which need to run in
the next 6, 12, 24, 96 hours
Then the utility can choose when
to switch on these loads

gained at the coal face, on the ground, and
practically, not theoretically.

even if it the wrong advice for the client, to
protect their jobs, and to protect their

A better, more healthier world, where the millennial goal
of electricity access to all is achieved in a sustainable,
environmentally friendly way, without use of fossil fuels,
and where health and time availability is increased, and
stress reduced

Citizen Power Station David Lipschitz 9th April 2016 1 Hypothesis Citizens want to work with their utilities to grow the economy Utilities want to grow their revenue But their revenue is decreasing and they are fighting this with a system of higher tariffs and service fees which are further damaging their business model Citizens want Decreasing costs Costs have decreased for many things, and allowed almost everyone world wide to have a better standard of living than in the past. Anyone with hot running water and a warm house has more luxury than the kings of the Middle Ages Increasing income In the past the focus has been here More timeCompanies want plentiful, cheap, reliable, electricity Staff power station 3 What don't we need? Utilities are scared of "grid defection" I also don't want this because once someone has defected from the grid, their possibility of interacting with the grid is lost, and their ability to be a part of a new distributed utility model is lost. And their ability to help the economy grow faster is lost. A loss of goodwill from the general population to the utilities 4 A suggestion Roof top owners become IPP's and power stations and act like big users, as part of the new utility model IPP = Independent Power Producer With NNEM, New Net Metering Electricity is banked. The client's sell rate is 80% of the buy rate Time Of Use Tariffs With a new structure and no service fee No service fee because otherwise there will be grid defection Demand Response Smart Meters Energy Booking For cooking, washing machines, heavy loads that can we requested and which need to run in the next 6, 12, 24, 96 hours Then the utility can choose when to switch on these loads Investments before tax & before VAT With Energy Intensive User Benefits Special tariffs (2.7x) Esco benefits 2 What do we need? Citizen Capital Knowledge Intellectual Capital The vaste value tied up in peoples' assets Citizen Science So many citizens are "scientists", in many cases with more knowledge that scientists in laboratories or business schools This knowledge has been gleaned with massive reading, research, R&D, personal investment for personal knowledge and benefit, with knowledge gained at the coal face, on the ground, and practically, not theoretically. Many experts only give their own expertise, even if it the wrong advice for the client, to protect their jobs, and to protect their investment in their expertise Many citizens have put millions into disclosing their science, sharing it at conferences, in newspapers, in the press generally, in EIA's and Invitation to Tenders and RFI's EIA = Environmental Impact Assessment RFI = Request For Information Buy in Social Capital Rewards An incentive program for the utility's staff to reward them for changed behaviors in the right direction A loyalty program for clients to reward them for being part of the system, eg Demand Response benefits can be given in the form of points 5 David Lipschitz What do I want out of this?
