problems.
Quality indicators are examined in detail to draw final conclusions on the success of the
designof a networkorany of the observationsmade fromit.

 QA mechanisms
Mast7001-Managementinformationandcontrol
Performance measurement tools in business, their context and how they impact managerial
decisions.
‘Business understands numbers’ is a key concept in the understanding of performance
indicators. Performance indicators, whether derived from financial accounting or non-
financial data sources need to match the function of the measurement being explored to be
meaningful.
Mast7003-OrganisationalChange
Looksat the driversforand the influence overmanagerialprioritiesthatchange brings.
Change driversinclude:economic,social,behavioural andenvironmental issues.
Key managerial priorities include: achieving goals, developing/enhancing performance,
developmentof dynamicpolicytocope withchange.
Expert leadership is seen as the ability to aquire, understand and apply reasoning to a broad
frontof challengesfacingmanagementatall levels.
3rd Year
Geom3001-Systemdesignandanalysis
The developmentof skillsinsoftware engineeringandsystemsanalysis/design.
The definition of user requirements and how to ensure that products/services are fit for
purpose.
Aims
To comprehendthe theoryandpractice of
 Software engineeringprinciples:
o Modularity
o Specification
o Data abstraction
o Objectmodelling
o Designpatterns
 Visual modellingtools –UML
Geom3002-GroupProject
Tasked to illustrate the development of the Stratford 2012 Olympic site in terms of
beneficial change tothe surroundingareaduringandafterthe Olympics.
The project corresponded to an Invitation to Tender for a project. Aimed to develop
researchand managementskillswithingroupparticipationaswell asprojectmanagement.
Solutions to the ITT sought as written and oral reports to the ‘client’, with group and
individualperformance assessment.
Geom3003-Emergingcommerciallandscapes
Technical innovationaltersthe nature andpractice of geomaticsovertime.
Commercial impacts are traced from several perspectives in order to develop generic
managementcompetencies within geomatics.
Two groupprojectsexplored:
 Productionof a businessplanforasmall start up company
 Implementationof amajor change
Two individual reportsexplored:
 An individual reportreviewedanew directioningeomatics
 An individual presentation, on a case for major reinvestment, was prepared for
anothermemberof the studygroupto present.
Understanding was gained of commercial practice, legal constraints, the dynamics of
innovation, flexible/just in time production policies, the global economy, R&D contractual
issuesandhealth&safety.
