1. Rethink Line-up! In your groups, stand from left to right according to how much or how little you thought about the key questions (home learning q’s) before choosing your favourite snack.
2. Were workers involved in production fairly paid? Were any pesticides and fertilisers used? How far had ingredients travelled to reach your shop? How much processing was involved (and so energy use)? Are any of the ingredients in short supply? Can the packaging be reused for anything? Can the packaging be recycled? Will the product go into landfill and if so, is it biodegradable? Can the packaging be reused for anything? Can the packaging be recycled? Did you think about any of the following:
3. Organise your group into a sustainability continuum. (most sustainable to least sustainable). Can you justify your position? Is your favourite snack sustainable? Could you buy differently to make a more positive environmental impact?
4.
5.
6. Which are the most important needs in our society? Discuss the role of music, art and beauty. Do we need beautiful objects, buildings etc? What effect do these things have on us? Are your top needs things that have a big impact on the planet and people? Are they sustainable because of the energy used or pollution caused? Can we provide them for everyone on the planet? What is the difference between needs and wants? What approach to needs should we take when we are designing? Should we try to meet all the different needs? Should we think about what people want? What about designing beautiful things to make people make feel good?
