Focus Experience:
• Legacy FOCUS, S/390 MVS/TSO , NWRDC, 1990 to Present
- Developed metadata file descriptions to access over 700 VSAM, Fixed Format, FOCUS and DB2 files.
- Wrote over 2,700 standard and ad-hoc reports that provided summary and detailed data on Student, Staff,
Faculty and Financial systems.
- Developed daily mainframe extracts that normalized data into data marts for easy end-user access.
• EDA/Iway 1998 to 2002
- Configured, and maintained access to mainframe relational and non-relational data files.
- Created Data warehousing of historical files and migrated off mainframe to server to reduce costs.
- Developed Web interfaces to provide for quick access to Mainframe data.
• WebFOCUS 1998 to 2002
- Installed, maintained, upgraded and supported, WebFOCUS on Windows NT server.
- Served as University’s WebFOCUS Administrator, establishing Managed Reporting Environment (MRE)
domains, creating and maintaining user accounts and privileges.
- Created and developed every domain’s “Standard Reports” and “Reporting Objects”
- Developed Web interfaced Self Service Reports for variety of standard reports that used features like drill-down
and on-demand paging and included report outputs in HTML, Excel and Adobe PDF formats.
- Converted and migrated a large number of legacy programs to WebFOCUS access and formats.
- Used Report Broker for reports that were scheduled and enabled alerts with delivery to email addresses.
• Solutions with Focus and WebFocus
- Quick and easy access of Student Financial Aid awards for Financial Aid staff.
- Tracking of NCAA athletes and their eligibility for team rosters.
- Daily registration reports with historical comparisons.
- Multi-year historical data for demographic reports on Faculty and Students.
- Customized, detailed reports designed to improve referrals in admissions.
Recent Responsibilities
• Served as the sole analyst that developed, tested, maintained and updated systems and programs to access and
analyze data from University and State files. This system provided a means to consistent, accurate, timely data and
information used to support the University administrative functions and decision making process.
• Worked daily with administrators, faculty, staff, state and federal agencies assistingin providing access to
information, by understanding the problem and developing the reports to use and designed the means to accomplish
the task.
• Served as the primary support person for the university community regarding FOCUS programming. Responsibilities
included training, and answering questions regarding the system and the data files used.
Additional Web Experience
• Developed one of the nations first Institutional Research web pages in 1992
• Updated and maintained data for the unit’s webpage as needs were determined.
2. • Solely responsible in planning, and developing an internal information system called“FIU Information Portal” where
none existed. This system gave university users a consistent, uncomplicated means via inter/intra-net access to
multiple, large, and complex files on the enterprise system
Training
• Conducted numerous workshops and seminars that were used to cross train university staff to utilize WebFOCUS.
Included were courses covering the topics of “Introduction, Intermediate and Advanced FOCUS Report Writing
• Developed and taught a weekly Introduction to the Managed Reporting Environment for End users and Power users.
• Developed and taught individualized Training for WebFOCUS domain Administrators
Documentation
• Developed, created and, maintained an online documentation site for all files used in the MRE Domains
• Created a common library of programs and “defines” for the standardization of reports
