TITLE:
SENIOR DESIGNER - ELECTRICAL
REPORTS TO:
SENIOR ENGINEER - ELECTRICAL
SUMMARY:
The Designer reports to the Senior Engineer and is typically responsible for all design and drafting
activities within a specific Area. Where the project size does not warrant dividing the facilities in Areas,
the Senior Designer would typically be responsible for all design/drafting activities for the project.
The position involves both technical design and supervision functions, requiring sound knowledge in the
design of project specific electrical components or systems as well as supervisory skills in the
coordination and review of work performed by other designers.
JOB DUTIES:
● Have a clear understanding of the project requirements as they relate to scope, cost and
schedule.
● Assist with the development and set-up of the iPas DT design environment specific to the
project.
● Develop the project specific CAD standards, including procedures for handling vendor data,
drawing/model checking, model reviews, back-drafting, etc.)
● Prepare man-hour estimates for 3D modeling and 2D drawing extraction/generation.
● Develop the project drawing list and assign each drawing the appropriate Engineering Work
Package (EWP), Area and installation contract or equipment purchase attributes.
● Maintain the project drawing list on a regular basis, modifying attributes and/or adding and
deleting drawings as required.
● Record and maintain progress measurement of 2D drawings using Hatch’s iPAS DM reporting.
● Update 3D model progress for all modeled equipment using Hatch’s ERS reporting tool. All
intermediate milestones for progress measurement, manual and automatic, are to be updated on a
weekly basis (minimum). Ensure all designers are maintaining the status of equipment updated on a
regular basis.
● Develop and review with the lead electrical engineer any corrective actions required to maintain
the targeted design progress.
● Assist as required in the development of the layout design criteria.
● Execute designs following the electrical and layout design criteria developed specifically for the
project as well as the defined standards, codes and regulations.
● Enforce the application of the design criterias throughout the evolution of the design.
● Assist the design coordinator with all activities that relate to 3D model clash detection systems.
Coordinate with other practices and PAT as required.
● Provide forecasts for hours to go on uncompleted design/drafting activities.
● Assign specific tasks to and manage the designers accordingly to respect budget and durations.
● Coordinate all design activities with the other practices.

- 2. POSITION DESCRIPTION PDG-PPD-5030
● Coordinate the update of all models/drawings with Vendor information when it is received and
ensure all changes are coordinated with the design coordinator and other practices.
● Execute milestone reviews of 3D models using Navigator. Log action items and resolve issues
as required.
● Ensure check sheets for all equipment are created and maintained as Vendor data is received.
Back-model all changes as required and coordinate with the design coordinator and other
disciplines.
● Coordinate the generation of 2D drawings from the 3D model as required by the project.
● Provide material quantity take-offs for estimating purposes or inclusion into bulk commodity
purchases and installation contracts.
● Check drawings produced by other designers.
● Work directly with all project participants to ensure the iPas DT environment is functioning as
required by the project team. Coordinate with PAT as required.
● Mentor the young designers and technologists.
DATA INTEGRATION TASKS:
The Hatch engineering management applications and tools assist the lead designer in monitoring the
progress of work and status of each engineering deliverable. Various reports are available at different
levels of detail to provide the lead designer with data that can be analyzed and trended to then make
sound decisions.
The data and information entered into the applications is also used by other practices and functions to
perform their respective tasks. It is therefore imperative that the senior designer perform the tasks
identified below.
