Diana is a 27-year-old widow living in Bogota, Colombia with her two young sons. She makes $100 per month doing odd jobs, which is not enough to support her family or repair her falling-down home. Through a connection with the McCrea News, her home was rebuilt with floors, a new kitchen, bathroom, and dry roof, dramatically changing her life. The McCrea News is celebrating 20 years of missions work in Colombia and planning for the next 20 years, which will include sharing the gospel with more schools.

Celebrating 20 Years in Missions 1995 - 2015!
Dear Friends,
Life for Diana Chavez has become about bare survival.
Diana is a 27 year old widow and mother of 2 young boys
who live on a mountaintop in southern Bogota.
Three years ago her husband was
accidentally killed by a local street gang.
Left alone with her children, she can only
take odd jobs close to home because of the
extreme travel time across the city and not
having anyone to provide child care.
Working at odd jobs near home or sewing clothes, Diana
makes around $100 Cdn/month,25% ofthenormal minimum
wage - not nearly enough to really provide for her family OR
repair her home which is at the point of falling down.
They live in a small prefabricated house purchased by her
late husband, but the home was built with no foundations, the
base on which it was built was cracked and the roof was in
bad shape. Inside was not much better, no floors and both
the kitchen and bathroom were falling apart.
A few months ago we were contacted by a friend in
Edmonton, who knew a family that wanted to honour their
recently deceased parents. They asked us to find a family in
great need so we contacted a pastor who sent us 5 potential
projects. Diana was selected to have her house rebuilt.
In a few weeks their lives changed dramatically. The house
now has floors, a great kitchen, bathroom and a dry roof!
God answered the prayers of this young Christian widow!
The Next 20!
For 20 years God has continued to open new doors for
us, things like presentingthe Gospel in schools around
Colombia. In most of these places no Christian group
has ever gone before. To God be the Glory.
We are planning for the next 20 and that includes
making phone calls and asking for people to pray
about partnering with us; to fund His dreams.
Yes, calls can be awkward, but they are also an
opportunity to be part of reaching tens of thousands of
people with the Gospel every year. Thank you for
taking our call and prayingabout sharingin the dream.
Factoid
At 8,360ft, Bogotá is the world’s highest mega city. It
has been named one of the smartest cities with
modern advances like its public transportation and
ciclovia, where 75 miles roads are shut down for
bikers, runners, and roller-bladers every Sunday.
2. This Summer’s Teams
Over the summer we were privileged to host two teams and
we also had a very special couple come to visit from Canada!
First up was Metro City Church from Detroit. With 15 high
energy youth we spent 10 days ministering in churches and
schools. We even got a chance to visit a new town, Maripi,
part of Colombian’s emerald region. Colombia, accounts
for more than 60% of the world’s emerald production
and these are areas that were once hotly contested by various
factions trying to control the mines.
It took two hours in a bus up and down gravel mountain
roads, but we arrived to a warm welcome in the local high
school with over 300 students!
During the outreach we shared the Gospel with some 3000
students, almost all were inschools where no Christian group
had visited before!
No sooner had Metro left, than the team from The Gathering
Place in Pickering, Ontario arrived, but with a different goal.
A construction team, they came to build the 2nd floor of the
cabin they started last year at the retreat centre in Villeta. We
went from a bare slab to having the walls up in only 5 days!
Not satisfied with just building, they spent the evenings doing
Men’s Ministry and Saturdays they led a very special training
camp-EvangelismThroughSports,trainingdozens of church
leaders in a new way to reach their communities.
Lastly, Stewart & Gudrun Hunter
came for a 5 day tour. The Hunters
are Missions Reps for the
Pentecostal Assemblies of Canada.
They came to spoil us a little and
get to know our work, but they also
came to minister to our pastors in
Bogota and in churches in Villeta and Chiquinquira.
Prayer Points
-In January2013 Darren’ssister was diagnosed with terminal
cancer. She was given a prognosis of 6 months to a year.
Her wish, if not to be completely healed, was to have our
nephew Zachary become an adult with his mother at his side.
Last week Zachary turned 18 and Brenda, while having her
challenges was able to celebrate it at his side. Keep Praying!
Gratefully,
Æ Darren, Patty, James & Darien Æ
Just as Jesus had a group of people who sustained Him (Luke 8:1-3), we also depend on God’s provision as expressed
through His children. Please consider partnering with us through your giving.
