10. !!! Bonus BLAZE-AID Slides !!!
Today I got to speak with (the very busy) good people from BlazeAid!
“BlazeAid is a volunteer-based organisation that works with families and
individuals in rural Australia after natural disasters such as fires and floods.
Working alongside the rural families, our volunteers help to rebuild fences
and other structures that have been damaged or destroyed.”
….on average they have 10 camps per year, max 7 active at once...
RIGHT NOW:
◈ 36 ACTIVE volunteer camps/operations
◈ 50-100 volunteers at each
11. Problem Areas
◈ LOGISTICS: Huge amounts of goods needed to reach all over Australia
◈ REPORTING: Inventories, volunteer locations for insurance purposes,
progress/status
◈ COMMS: Vast numbers of people needing to go to a multitude of places
◈ DONATIONS: Inability to control donation quantities of good leads to
waste through excessive donations of a given item
◈ TRAINING: Each ‘camp’ runs almost in isolation: training and
administration is not shared between them
12. HOW ARE THEY RUNNING THIS?
Spreadsheets, email, social media, and a website!
13. ◈ Volunteer organisations like this exist all around the world
◈ They’re strapped for cash - donations go to the victims of disasters
◈ A free or low-cost solution to these problems could be deployed globally
Challenges:
◈ Many users are not very technically literate - bushy farmers, seniors
◈ Access to end-users is limited from the ACT right now
◈ Assume zero cash available
Please get in touch if you think you can assist BlazeAid!
Considerations
14. Thank you for your time!
◈ Looking to start collaborative projects
◈ Need to hook up skills to project-ideas
Please get involved…
