Consumers are increasingly calling for greater control over their orders. Papa Murphy's has a clear answer for this with its C.Y.O. menu, which puts customers in the driver's seat.
2. Customizable Concepts
Papa Murphy’s Take ‘N’ Bake
Every franchise strives to deliver the best customer service experience
possible by providing great food and excellent service. Restaurant
franchises have noticed a trend of customers wanting to customize their
foods. In response, they have begun to embrace mass customization as
an integral part of their brand identity to ensure customer satisfaction.
Customization is not new but it continues to be a heavy request from
consumers when dining in or dining out. Allowing consumers to create
their meal helps maintain current customers and bring new traffic to the
restaurant.

“More choices equals
more fun, and more
fun – hopefully –
equals more guest
frequency.” – Leslie Kerr,
founder of the Boston-based
consultancy firm Intellaprice.
3. When Did Meal Customization Start?
02
According to QSR, customization in the restaurant industry began when McDonald’s
launched a take-it-my-way attack that included a batch and bin management method of
burger delivery. In 1974, Burger King came out with their “Have It Your Way” campaign to
separate their brand with an assemble-to-order system.
4. The Papa Murphy’s “C.Y.O.” Menu
03
The Papa Murphy’s “C.Y.O.” menu allows customers to choose what goes on their
take ‘n’ bake pizza by having the ability to select the crust, sauce, toppings and size:
1. Customers first choose the size of pizza ranging between 12” medium, 14” large
and 16” family sizes.
2. They choose the type of crust that they want between original, thin crust,
stuffed, large fresh pan and medium gluten free.
3. Next comes the sauce selection that includes traditional, creamy garlic, olive oil
and herb tomato.
4. Lastly, customers will choose from a variety of different toppings to add to their
pizza, just to name a few: Italian sausage, mushrooms, pineapple, crispy bacon,
green peppers and so much more.
“Burger King’s
success with ‘Have It
Your Way’ was due
to its ability to create
a customer-centric
product without
delay in order-to-
deliver time and
without an increase
in price,” – Dennis
Lombardi, executive vice
president of foodservice
strategies for WD Partners.
