Education Essay

a)Provide an introduction explaining what type of education qualifications are
delivered/ available online E.g. Open universities , Virtual learning environments,
BBC Bite size. Try to find a time frame for when virtual online courses became
available.

Online education commonly known E-learning, included all types of learning that is
electronically supported. To support different learning needs, there are several
different E-learning methods available online for example; Self-paced e-learning,
Audio and Video chat and Virtual Classroom's to name a few. In a virtual learning
environment, students have flexibility in their education. Students in this setting have
support from online teachers and can have support at home from a parent.

b)Research and provide examples of courses or educational resources that are
available online.

The Internet has thousands of courses and educational resources available. Firstly free
resources; Khan Academy is the most popular and successful free e-learning
experience. He organization offers more than two thousand seven hundred video
lectures and tutorials. Another free

c)List the advantages of using educational courses or educational resources that are
available online
E-learning can be more cost effective to deliver in comparison ti traditional classroom
based teaching. 'Dow Chemical 'who reduced average spending of $95 per learner /
per course on classroom training, to only $11 per learner / per course with electronic
delivery, giving rise to an annual saving of $34 million (Shepherd, 2002). The service
can also be more cost effective, for both the provider and consumer. Students .The e-
learning experience is now faster than the traditional classroom based teaching
method. There are limitations on how fast the modules/classes can be taught. Firstly,
traditional classroom based learning is limited by the availability of class rooms and
treachers; e-learning allows 24/7 access to files

-Find example of where someone has completed a qualification online and would not
have been able to do so if online education were not available

-Find examples of how Virtual Learning environments have benefitted students and
teachers by making resources available online.
-Discuss advantages of online resources.
There are many advantages of online resources; firstly onlin providing the user has
access to the the Internet resources online are available 24/7

d)List the disadvantages of education online E.G Technical problems, lack of social
contact ect.

The flexibility of planning your own time table can back fire; the student might not
manage their time effectively or with little care. This may cause the student to fail to
complete the degree(s). Most online learning materials are in text format, if your
preferred learning style doesn't suite the text format the students final
grade/qualification could be effected. Students that have a online degree might find
that employers may be less willing to accept them over applicants that have gone
through the traditional classroom system. Communication and interaction with other
students will be through electronic medium including emails and chatrooms; there
fore teamwork and/or social skills could be damaged. Not all courses are available
online, lab work for example. Online education relies heavily on technology, which is
prone to fail. Firstly access to the internet is essential, with out e-learning isn't
available. Its essential that important information is backed up because hard drives
can also fail.

-Find examples of negative experiences of learning online E.g. false websites , lack of
success due to poor delivery of the course, wrong people applying for online courses

e)Draw conclusions about the current scope and limitations of education online E.g.
research what might change in the future and what barriers would have to be
overcome.
