1. COVER NOTE
I write to express my strong interest in the Safety and Security Advisor position in Mercy Corps
in Juba South Sudan.
I have a considerable experience in field safety and security operations and other security related
issues having served as a Military Liaison Officer, Military Observer, Company Commander
among others in several peace keeping missions of the UN during my 26 years within the Ghana
Armed Forces as a military officer rising through the rank of Leading Aircraftman to Squadron
Leader.
I am currently a Military Liaison Officer with the United Nations Mission in South Sudan where
I patrol, observe, monitor, assess, conduct operations, lead convoy movements and report on the
prevailing local security conditions and trends and advise or brief UN personnel, project staff
and UNMISS HQ accordingly on daily basis for the past one year. I further follow up and
identify humanitarian needs of IDPs and the local community in my Area of Responsibility
(AoR) and give feedback to UNMISS HQ and other relevant UN Agencies.
In 2014, I was a Liaison Officer (LNO) at the Tactical Operations Centre (TOC) Sector West,
UNIFIL, where I successfully coordinated the sector’s security operational activities and
provided periodic reports and/or briefs on the operational activities of Ghana Battalion at the
sector level for more than a year.
In 2013, as a Company Commander of the Ghana Battalion I developed, monitored and
implemented the entire security plan for my area of responsibility for my troops and other UN
personnel and their eligible dependents for a year. I, also in consultation with UNIFIL Security
section, conducted evacuation exercise involving troops and other UN personnel and their
eligible dependents numbering over eight hundred (800).
As a United Nations Military Observer in United Nations Mission for the Referendum in
Western Sahara (MINURSO) in 2011, I participated actively in the monitoring and analysis of
the activities of the parties involved in the ceasefire agreement and reported satisfactorily to
MINURSO Headquarters.
Within the Ghana Armed Forces, I have held such leadership positions as Director of Ghana Air-
force Bands and Administrator at the Ghana Armed Forces Headquarters.
I have a Master of Arts degree in Human Rights and Bachelor of Education in Music all from the
University of Education Winneba.
I am quite adept with MS- Access, MS- Excel, MS- Power Point, MS-Words and other systems
and data bases that I use in my daily work.
2. I believe my educational background, peacekeeping and military experience; competencies in IT
and strong security consciousness make me a strong contributor to the effective and efficient
daily security operations of the mission towards the successful accomplishment of its goals. I
bring commitment, professionalism and enthusiasm to my work, as well as excellent
communication, analytical and management skills with friendly personality and easy ability to
work as a team member.
My interest in pursuing work in a peacekeeping mission is emphatic. I would welcome the
opportunity in particular to work with Mercy Corps. My attached CV outlines my previous
experience and performance appraisal in greater detail. Please feel free to contact me for any
other questions you may have. I can be reached any time by my e-mail domaryee@yahoo.com
