Strategic goals of the COWIportal

     Launched 7 January 2008

       To integrate the companies in
        the COWI Group further via a
        corporate Intranet/portal
        supporting shared business
        processes

       To support seamless cross-
        company project execution
        (primarily document and task
        handling)

       To improve knowledge
        sharing, communication and
        use of IT solutions in general.

       Globalisation, collaboration
        and knowledge sharing

Limitations and prerequisites


       All companies in the COWI Group must have the required
        IT infrastructure.

       HR master data about all employees in the COWI Group must be
        registered in a central database/HR system.

       Not all countries can offer high speed internet connections at a
        reasonable prise (Africa)

       Portal Governance Committee (top management/owners of

      COWI's intranet was one of the ten winning intranets who received the
       Intranet Design Annual 2009 from Nielsen Norman Group this year:

    NNGroup praised the following features of the COWIportal in the
      report:

      The personalisation of the home page of the portal

      The "Find People" function (The Phonebook)

      The project sites

      The overall impression that the COWIportal will further knowledge

Our basic thinking on communication


          COWI is a communicating company where all employees
          carry our brand.

          COWI is a dialogue-based organisation, where employees can
          expect to be involved in the operation and development of the
          company.

          The most important communication channel is line of command.
          Every decision includes a decision on how it is communicated.

          COWI doesn't speak with one corporate voice but with 1000
          voices. To empower employees internal communication must:

            Give employees access to the knowledge and information
          necessary to do their job as consultants and to cooperate on
          common goals.

            Enable employees to participate in the commercial,
          professional, and social development of their place of work.

         The COWIportal must…

           Complement line management communication, strengthen
          organisational culture, and raise debates about profession and
          business.



         This means that…

           All employees have access to create and publish news to the
          entire group.

           Departments, divisions, and regions are encouraged to
          communicate locally via the COWIportal.

           Communication from top management on the COWIportal is a
          supplement to line of command.
