4. We ‘Felt’:
• That opium has adversely impacted the
• Social as well as the family life of the majority
• In the village. The village has become a major
• alcoholic hub and consequently the young
• and the old of the village have been trapped in
• this addiction .
The village has been suffering a major
financial setback.
•There is an increase in the cases of thefts, family
disputes, idling amongst the youths and the
villagers have become disease prone.
•The aforesaid situation has led to unemployment
and the education of the children has suffered a
lot.
•Since all these things impact our lives,we
decided to take up this issue.
5. We ‘Imagined’:
• •We imagined that together as a team we can
at least sensitize people towards the evil
impacts of the poisonous opium.
• That our village can also be a prosperous
• Well educated and healthy village with peace
• and fraternity all around if only this addiction
• Is given up.
6. We ‘Did’:
•We prepared posters with appealing
We went door to door to identify the people
Addicted to opium and affected by
opium.•We had an awareness rally through
the Village.•We organized corner plays in
the park, where people had gathered in big
number and the places where People were
consuming opium.
• We prepared posters with appealing
slogans to stick on the walls.
• •We tried to persuade people to give up
the consumption of opium.
• •We made them understand about the
harm of this evil and they swore not to
consume any sort of drugs/liquor, amidst
a big village gathering.
7. Impact on Community:
Encouraged by the campaign,the sarpanch
of the village Mrs.Shanti Devi said, “The
efforts
Of the SBS students are really an eye opener
For us. We are planning to organize to a drug
Eradication camp to keep this evil away from
our village.
8. Impact on Us:
• •We also realized that social issues raised by
• Children are much more touching and make
• a rather deeper impact on the masses. This
event a highly motivating and encouraging for
us. So many parents took the oath not to
consume alcohol further and hence we think
that this event is going to put a life long impact
on our lives.
9. Experience of Community Members & Teachers:
• The campaign was taken heartily by the
community members.During the rally
the number of the people kept
increasing, which substantiates the fact
that the program was taken positively
and they had higher expectations from
the campaign.
We had never thought the the small kids
could do so much for the community. They
should,in future,take up some more
challenging issues. Now, we expect a lot
from them.”
10. The Road Ahead…..(in the next 3 months)
• To make the campaign a permanent success we plan-
• •To visit those peaople at regular intervals who had vouched for giving up
opium consumption so that their morale is kept intact.
• •To persuade more people for doing away with such addictions.
• •To monitor the progress of the upcoming drug eradication camp, to be
organized by the village panchayat.
